EDUCATION POLICES BE BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS: DR. CHEEMA
NewZNew (Chandigarh) : ‘There is dire need of framing the education polices exclusively based on the needs of the academic institutions’. It was appealed by Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema, Education Minister, Punjab while inaugurating the 29th academic conference of All-India Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (AIFUCTO) at S.D. College, Sector 32, and Chandigarh.
Dr. Cheema said that he is inaugurating this conference on behalf of Chief Minister, Punjab S. Parkash Singh Badal, who could not’ make it as he is away to China on official tour. He said, the theme of the conference-quality is higher education – issues and challenges are very relevant in today’s time.
He said that probably the theme could have covered the entire gamut of education from UG to PG as quality of education is relevant at all levels. Infact the foundation of quality higher educations gets laid in schools. He hoped that deliberations will provide inputs to the policy makers. Guest of Honour Sh. V.P. Singh, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh said emphasis that education should make a person more humble all his dealings. He requested delegates from different states to go around the city and enjoy its beauty.
Mr. Tarun Patra, President, AIFUCTO pointed out that the liberalisation of policies has increased the access, but quality and fairs deal to teachers is missing. Sh. Asok Barman, General Secretary, AIFUCTO presented his report to the delegates. The aged teachers Prof. Mrinmoy Bhattacharya and Prof. H.S. Mehta shared their experiences in teachers movement. Both of them were emphatic that teachers’ organisation has important societal role and same must be kept in mind.
Mr. U. K. Sharma, President, College Managing Committee welcmed the delegates and offered all help during the stay. Amongst others Principal Dr. Bhushan K. Sharma, Principal G.S. Gosal, University teachers Karamjit Sihngh, Keshav Malhotra, Sanjay Kaushik and S. Gurdev Singh Brar, Retd. IAS an President of Sikh Education Society graced the occasion
