Glow Run for Women Safety at Sukhna Lake on 23rd July 2016

NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The Department of Tourism, Chandigarh Administration and Chandigarh Runners, a non-profit society of enthusiastic runners and the biggest running group of Chandigarh having nearly 2200 members and 94.3 MY FM are bringing the first Night Run named “RUN THE NIGHT GLOW RUN” to the City Beautiful Chandigarh. This unique event besides promoting healthy lifestyle through the medium of long distance running will also highlight the issue of WOMEN SAFETY and there cannot be a better time than a Saturday night to do this. My FM has been running a vigorous campaign to make people aware of the issues related to women safety and a healthy lifestyle through running.

Chandigarh, already one of the safest cities for women in India would like to give a message to the tourists especially women tourists touring the city that they should come and visit the city fearlessly not only during the day but also during the night. The event is also supported by Chandigarh Police.

The event will include a 21.097 Km Half Marathon called RUN THE NIGHT and a 5 Km GLOW RUN. Whereas, the Half Marathon event is being preferred mostly by young and seasoned amateur runners, the Glow Run is a hot favourite of children, students, families and the elderly who all want to stand for this cause through the medium of running. All the participants will be given medals, T-shirts, refreshments and certificates. There would water and first-aid stations along the route where volunteers would be stationed to take care of runners. Flex signage would be placed to show distance covered and to guide the runners on the route.

Whereas there would be a Zumba performance as a warm up before the beginning of the run both for 5 Km and 21.097 Km runners, there would be a recovery zone to take care of any injured or cramped runners after the run. Beginning at the lake cafeteria near Sukhna lake, the route of the run would touch the Matka Chowk; Eiffel tower monument near Government Arts college (Sector 10); Bougainvillea Garden; Capitol complex and Rock Garden in order to highlight the spots of tourist interest.

Half Marathon runners will be provided with chip embedded chest number bibs to log their time into the timing machine systems. All the finishers who successfully complete the Run the Night Half Marathon will be given finishers’ medals. All the participants of the 5 Km Glow Run will be given medals of participation. Swaraj, Ivy Hospital, Strands Salon, Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management Limited, Patiala Runners, Thrill Zone, Deazy are the partners supporting this run and the cause.

Chandigarh Runners having a vision to make the city the Running Capital of India aim to include this run as one of the annual flagship events in its running calendar. This group is not only promoting healthy lifestyle through running but has in the recent past stood for the social causes such as managing crowd funding through its runs for some cancer patients and helping them in their fight against cancer.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Kavita Singh, IAS, M.D. CITCO, said that the Marathon shall provide an opportunity for the residents of tricity and other nearby states to be involved in this rejuvenating experience of fitness along with other domestic as well as foreign participantants.
