THE GOVERNOR OF PUNJAB AND ADMINISTRATOR, UNION TERRITORY, CHANDIGARH,

PROF. KAPTAN SINGH SOLANKI

ON THE OCCASION

OF REPUBLIC DAY MESSAGE 2015

HG photoOn the eve of 65th Anniversary of our Republic, I extend my heartiest greetings to all Indians living in the country and abroad and brave personnel of our armed forces, who guard our frontiers on land, at sea and in the air, to defend the unity and territorial integrity of the Nation.

We are grateful to our Kissans, mazdoors, industrialists and traders for their unstinted support in taking the State to the path of progress and prosperity. Punjab, being predominately and agricultural State helped the Nation by contributing maximum foodgrains in the Cental Pool for last five decades. Our agriculture scientists and technologists are increasing their efforts by educating the farmers about innovative techniques and giving the necessary guidance, with research based studies.

The unprecedented contribution of Punjab to the cause of freedom of our country is unmatched. The great martyrs, who shed every drop of their blood and languished in jails, left a rich legacy for all of us which demand unbounded love and respect of our motherland besides firm commitment to preserve India’s glory.

The Punjab Government and Chandigarh Administration have successfully launched the dream project of the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi’s, Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan campaign on the occasion of Gandhi Jyanti.

Today, we have some challenging tasks before us and we have to pay special attention to check the menace of drug addiction. This will be tackled only by joint intervention of government, society and parents. The Government of Punjab has resolved to banish drugs from the state. People of Punjab need to extend full cooperation to the State Government to fight against drugs to save the youth of Punjab.

The un-ethical practice of female foeticide is also posing a serious threat to the social fabric of our society. Nani Chaan campaign successfully launched in the State aiming to save the girl child as well as promoting environmental protection by planting a sapling to celebrate the birth of girl child is a right step in this direction. We all need to join hands and heads to take action to curb this social evil.

I am confident that the people of Punjab and Chandigarh, who have always been torch bearers in every movement for change and betterment, will emerge as role models for the rest of the Country. I appreciate the initiatives of Punjab Government and UT Administration for focusing on setting up Solar Energy effectively in Punjab and Chandigarh.

Let us renew our pledge, on this historic day, to rededicate ourselves to the ideals of broadmindedness nationalism and patriotism and to work, with commitment, dedication, faith and confidence to make Punjab and the Country strong and vibrant.
