NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Gift of Life Organ Donation Awareness Society (GLODAS) organised a cycle rally, to create awareness about Organ Donation. The Cycle rally was flagged off by Hon’ble Mr. Justice Surya Kant, Judge Punjab & Haryana High Court, Prof Yogesh Chawla, Director, PGI, Sarvjit Singh, Finance Secretary, UT, Prof Raj Bahadar, VC, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS) and Dr Sukhchain Gill, SSP, Chandigarh from Sukhna Lake.
The Cycle rally concluded at Punjab University where a seminar on ‘Organ Donation’ was held in Dr B R Ambedkar Auditorium. The Organ Donation Awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh, Urologist & Kidney Transplant Surgeon & Head, Dept. of Urology, DMC & Hospital, Ludhiana. Dr. Baldev Singh Aulakh Said, “Currently 1.5 lac People every year suffer from end stage kidney failure disease.4000-5000 are lucky ones to undergo kidney transplant with organ donated by their near & dear ones. Same is story for liver and heart transplants. On the other side one brain dead person can save 8 lives and help many others. So it is very important to raise awareness among people about the need for organ donation.”
This programme was presided over by Prof Arun Kumar Grover , Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof Arun Kumar Grover pledged his organs and also committed to motivate all Punjab University staff members and students to participate in this noble cause of organ donation awareness drive. Prof Grover said that Dr Baldev Singh Aulakh has initiated very great & noble cause which will help the entire community.
Mr Hussan Lal (IAS ), Secretary (Health), Punjab Government, was also present in the seminar and elaborated regarding development of organ transplant rules. He said that it was necessary to amend these transplant rules to make organ donation an easy & smooth task for the community. He also complimented Gift of Life Organ Donation Awareness Society (GLODAS) for taking up the task of making people aware about importance of organ donation. Certificates of participation were given to all the attendees.
