NEWZNEW Bathinda, October 7– In a bid to ensure proper representation to weaker sections in the civil services, the Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today announced to set up a world class Centre for imparting coaching to the aspirants from weaker sections at Bathinda in the name of Bharat Ratna Dr. BR Ambedkar.

Addressing the gathering during fifth national seminar to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar here today, the Chief Minister said that the state government would bear the entire expenditure of this Centre to be set up in Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University. He envisioned that this Centre would act as a catalyst for ensuring more participation of weaker and underprivileged sections in coveted civil services. Likewise, Mr. Badal also announced a scholarship of Rs. 5 lakh for every aspirant pursuing his Ph. D on life and philosophy of Dr Ambedkar.

Paying rich tributes to Dr. Ambedkar, the Chief Minister described him as a great scholar, jurist, economist, social reformer and a statesman. He said that Dr Ambedkar was one of the most towering personalities in the entire world history adding that along with socialist Karl Marx, Dr Ambedkar was the only person who was well educated and had read all the books in the London library. Mr. Badal also said that this great messiah of weaker sections had more than 50,000 books in his personal library.

The Chief Minister said that though Dr. Ambedkar hailed from a humble family but his outstanding contribution has brought him in the league of global leaders. He said that Indian Constitution was the result Dr. Ambedkar’s hard work, dedication and far sightedness adding that Babasaheb was not only leader of weaker sections but he was the leader of entire humanity. Mr. Badal said that besides framing the constitution, Dr Ambedkar also laid the foundation of Reserve Bank of India. Above all, he was a true votary of empowerment of women.

Exhorting the gathering to follow the path shown by Dr. Ambedkar, the Chief Minister said that it would be the real tribute to this great son of soil. Mr. Badal said that all of us should make dedicated efforts for carving out an egalitarian society for securing justice and equality for all the sections of society rising above the petty considerations of caste, colour and creed.

The Chief Minister said that in line of ideology of Dr. Ambedkar the state government has set up meritorious schools for imparting quality education to poor but bright students. He said that the state was blessed with students who despite belonging to economically weaker strata of society were excellent in their studies adding that sole aim of opening these schools was to tap their enormous potential to full extent. Mr. Badal said that this model of schooling was need of the hour to ensure that students from economically weaker sections were enormously benefitted.

Likewise, the Chief Minister said that the state government has taken several path breaking initiatives to perpetuate the glorious heritage of the state. He said that memorials to perpetuate the legacy of Bhagwan Valmiki ji and Guru Ravidass ji besides War Memorial & Museum at Amritsar and Jang-e-Azaadi memorial at Jalandhar would be dedicated to the people in the coming months. Mr. Badal said that the state government was duty-bound to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the state and no stone would be left unturned for his noble cause.

Listing the path breaking initiatives taken by the state government, the Chief Minister said that due to concerted efforts of SAD-BJP alliance government, Punjab was the only power surplus state in the country. Likewise, he said that Punjab was today leading the country in field of education adding that Bathinda city has today emerged as a hub of education in the entire northern region. Mr. Badal also said that the state government has accorded top priority towards the development of the state and prosperity of its people besides strengthening the ethos of communal harmony, peace and brotherhood.

Earlier in her address, the Union Food Processing Minister Mrs. Harsimrat Kaur Badal lauded the Chief Minister for commemorating the birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar in a unique way. She said that Punjab government was following the footsteps of Dr Ambedkar by ensuring quality education to the students of all sections of society. Mrs. Badal said that due to the concerted efforts made by the state government Punjab was today leading the country in field of education.

Recalling the immense contribution of Dr Ambedkar in Women empowerment, Mrs. Badal said that Babasaheb raised the voice for women and underprivileged sections at a time when they were being subjected to complete humiliation and exploitation. She exhorted the people to contribute towards upliftment of weaker and underprivileged sections as a real tribute to Dr Ambedkar. Mrs. Badal said that no one could ever forget the glorious contribution made by Dr Ambedkar for the country and its people.

Earlier, in his address, Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Dr. Charanjeet Singh Atwal highlighted the importance accorded to education by Dr. Ambedkar and said that the founder of Indian constitution desired quality education for all. He said that Dr. Ambedkar’s fight was not against any particular community but it was a fight against the menace of casteism. Dr. Atwal said that the great service done by Dr. Ambedkar was in no way less than the statesmen of world like Mao, Lenin, Dr. Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and others.

In his address, Chairman of Punjab State Schedule Caste Commission Mr. Rajesh Bagha lauded the Chief Minister for taking this historic initiative to commemorate 125th birth anniversary of Dr Ambedkar by holding six national seminars across the state. He said that these seminars would act as a catalyst in showcasing the great services rendered by Dr Ambedkar to the nation. Mr. Bagha said that these seminars were spreading a new awareness amongst the people especially the youth which was the need of hour.

On the occasion former MLA Mr. Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal conducted the proceedings of stage.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included MLA Mr. Darshan Singh Kotfatta, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Basant Garg, Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Swapan Sharma, Vice Chancellor Maharaja Ranjit Singh State Technical University Dr. MP Singh Issher and Chancellor Adesh University Mr. HS Gill.
