NewZNew (Chandigarh) : ‘Road Safety Manual – Your Guide to Driving Safe’ written by founder of NGO ArriveSafe Harman Singh Sidhu was released here today at UT Guest House here by Justice Rajan Gupta, a judge with the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
This Road Safety Manual explains rules of the road in an easy to understand manner. It is illustration intensive so even the poorly educated road users can also easily comprehend it.
The e-book version of manual in English is available while the print edition would be available along with Hindi and Punjabi editions shortly. Their e-books will be available within a fortnight. The Guest of Honour on the occasion was Dinkar Gupta, IPS, Additional Director General of Police, Punjab.
Soon after the release, Sidhu, who had been left paralysed 20 years back, after a road mishap said, India has the dubious distinction of being the road death capital of world with 10 percent of fatal road accidents against just minuscule one percent of world’s vehicles’ concentration.
Speaking about his book Harman said that the manual, an illustration intensive handbook to ensure it is comprehended by vast majority of road users even who are poorly educated.
He added that as per the data of National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in the year 2014, 1.41 lakh people had died in road crashes making it the number one cause of unnatural deaths. He added that 463 deaths and 1320 injuries takes place every day due to road accidents on Indian Roads. As per the World Health Organization (WHO), the road traffic injuries would be biggest killer by 2030 he added.
Sidhu said, keeping the increasing number of casualties in mind, this 208 page manual contains Road Safety Code, a set of rules for guiding and regulating the conduct of different classes of road users (drivers of motor vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians) on roads and in road-related areas (footpaths and parking area) to ensure order and improve safety. The rules include the knowledge of road signs, markings and signals. It explains common rules, etiquettes and safety practices that help the road users to understand the rules.
The Chief Guest, Justice Rajan Gupta said the book enlightens us with the importance of abiding by traffic rules, adding that with Indian roads becoming dangerous, this book would serve as a ready reckoner for all of us who are driving on these roads. ADGP, Gupta while speaking on the occasion congratulated Sidhu for this valuable work, stressing on the need to abide by road safety rules for the sake of our loved ones.
