Tech skills, fun & frolic mark GGSCW-26’s Annual IT-Fiesta

The Post Graduate Department of Computer Science and Applications of Guru Gobind Singh College for Women(GGSCW), Sector 26, Chandigarh in collaboration with Department of Science and Technology (DST), Chandigarh Administration organized IT FIESTA, which is an annual celebration of the college, to promote awareness regarding science and technology among the youth.

Mr. Ravinder Singh, Project Director, DST was the Chief Guest. He expressed that technology is growing exponentially and urged the youth to maintain pace with it. He motivated girls to excel in all fields of life. S Gurdev Singh, President, Sikh Educational Society & Col (Retd) S. Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, Sikh Educational Society,  were the Guests’ of honor for this grand event.

Dr.Charanjeet Kaur Sohi, Principal of the college appreciated the efforts of the Department and encouraged students towards healthy competition for acing in all fields of life. Dr. Rohini Arora, HOD, PG Department of Computer Science and Applications mentioned that the department is taking strides towards brighter future of the students, so that they can take on any competition and come out with flying colors in all technical and personal skills. Such events ensure spirit of competition and students learn to work in teams.

Students from over twenty colleges from in and around the city participated in this gala event through online registration. Various competitions related to IT like Website Designing, Software Development, Poster Presentation, Cartooning, e-waste modeling, Face Painting, Collage Making, Software Debugging and Photography were held. A modeling contest was also held. On basis of this Dheeraj from Post Graduate Government College Sec 11 (PGGC-11)was adjudged Mr. IT Fiesta while Himanshi from the same college won the title of Ms IT Fiesta. The overall trophy was won by Post Graduate Government College , Sec 46.

A number of Nukkad Nataks were also staged. Teams participated in Tech Rangoli on the current issue of Digital India with great fervor. Students made beautiful Rangolis on technology themes & the designs attracted a lot of attention. Dance items were also presented which embraced fusion between technology and entertainment. The competitions like e-waste modeling gave an opportunity to utilize waste material in an efficient way. Broken CDs, wires, and redundant electronic equipment were used very creatively to form models like pen stand, mobile phone, aero planes etc.

On the other hand, face painting and group dance maintained the enthusiasm of the participants. The imagination of students was well presented in the cartooning competition which showcased how technology can be used really well in the field of cartoons. To felicitate and promote the alumnus of this prestigious institution, the department invited 15 alumni of the college as Judges for the events.

In order to maintain the entertainment experienced by college students during college fests, a selfie corner, which was extensively used by girls for clicking pictures with different props was also set up during the event. An exhibition and stalls were also there.
