In 1996, Octavia Spencer made her screen debut in a minor role in the legal drama film “A Time to Kill.” After fifteen years, she eventually made it and won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for the 2011 film The Help. 1. Tow (June 7, 2025)
In Stephanie Laing’s next movie, “Tow,” Spencer will co-star with Ariana DeBose, Rose Byrne, Dominic Sessa, Simon Rex, Corbin Bernsen, and Demi Lovato. The biographical drama narrates the true story of Amanda Ogle, a homeless woman from Seattle who, after receiving a $21,634 tow bill, battled her way out of tow-company hell to reclaim her life and the vehicle that kept it all together. Ogle serves as the movie’s executive producer as well. The original screenplay was co-written by Brant Boivin and Jonathan Keasey. The movie is awaiting a theatrical release date after making its debut at the 2025 Tribeca Festival in June.
2. Ma 2 (TBA)
In “Ma 2,” the follow-up to the psychological thriller film “Ma,” Spencer will play Sue Ann Ellington once more. The rest of the cast and the plot of the Michael Showalter-directed movie are still unknown. Sue Ann Ellington was shown “getting bloody” with a group of high school students in the first movie. There is still time before a release date is declared because filming has not yet started.
3. Death of a Salesman (TBA)
Arthur Miller’s tragic play “Death of a Salesman” will be adapted into a feature film by Chinonye Chukwu, starring Spencer and Jeffrey Wright. The narrative centers on Willy Loman, an elderly salesman who struggles with the relationships he gave up with his family in order to pursue his career. The story’s themes include honesty, pursuing the American Dream, and being unfaithful. Spencer will portray Willy Loman’s wife, Linda Loman, while Wright will portray Willy Loman. The film is in pre-production and is awaiting a release date.
4. The Bobby Love Story (TBA)
“The Bobby Love Story,” an upcoming drama series on FX, tells the tale of Bobby Love, an escaped prisoner. Bobby Miller, who was born Walter Miller, was raised in poverty in the Jim Crow South with her seven siblings and a single mother. At an early age, he became a bank robber after hanging out with the wrong crowd of kids. Miller received a sentence of 25 to 30 years in prison in 1971 after being apprehended during a bank heist in North Carolina. But in 1977, he moved to New York after escaping the minimum security prison, where he had been transferred because of his good behavior. For 37 years, he lived a double life there.
Bobby even kept his identity a secret from his wife, Cheryl Love, until 2015, when he was apprehended again and sent back to North Carolina after the police found him in his Brooklyn home. Cheryl testified on her husband’s behalf and wrote letters to the governor and President Obama. Bobby Love was eventually released from prison in 2016. The well-known Facebook page “Humans of New York” highlights their story. The story has gained a lot of attention from readers all over the world since it was published.
5. Ride or Die (TBA)
Spencer will co-star with Ed Skrein, Hannah Waddingham, and Bill Nighy in the action-adventure miniseries “Ride or Die” on Prime Video. The seven-episode plot, which was directed by Peyton Reed and based on a story by Tessa Coates, centers on two best friends, Debbie and Judith. Judith leads a double life as a proficient assassin, a life that Debbie is unaware of. But when a hit goes wrong and the two women are forced to flee while being pursued by an enigmatic foe, the truth is revealed. Matt Miller is the showrunner of the four-part miniseries. Calam Lynch, Kathryn Drysdale, and Sylvia Hoeks are also part of the cast. The project is awaiting a release date and is currently in the pre-production phase.
6. The Heart (TBA)
Nat Faxon and Jim Rash wrote and directed the action comedy film “The Heart,” which follows Joe and Lucy as they accept a paid job moving a human heart from New York to Florida in less than a day due to a severe financial crisis. However, they choose to return the heart to its rightful owner after learning that the buyer is a black-market enthusiast who has unlawfully omitted the donor list. However, as the criminals begin to pursue them, this will not be simple. The millionaire buyer, his brother, and Dawn, Lucy’s former boss and a drug lord, are some of these criminals. Along with Allison Janney, who portrays Joe’s former boss, Dawn, Octavia Spencer and Sam Rockwell will have a “heart” time as Lucy and Joe, respectively. We can only hope that the project will be completed, as the film has been in pre-production for a long time. Unfortunately, more information is still pending.
