UNITED SIKHS Volunteer Selected As British Empire Medal Awardee

UNITED SIKHS Volunteer Selected As British Empire Medal Awardee : UNITED SIKHS is proud to announce that Sun Kaur, a volunteer since 2009, has been honored with the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the New Year Honours 2024. This prestigious recognition underscores the vital role of UNITED SIKHS in global humanitarian efforts and community service.

Sun Kaur’s accolade follows in the footsteps of Narpinderjit Kaur, who was awarded the BEM in 2015 for her voluntary services through the UNITED SIKHS helpdesk. This crucial service acts as a bridge between Immigration Enforcement (IE) and individuals, aiding over 5000 people in 15 years with paperwork, meetings, travel arrangements, and counseling.

The UNITED SIKHS helpdesk, an official partner of the Home Office, plays a significant role in guiding individuals through the complexities of immigration laws. Operating every Tuesday, the helpdesk also addresses broader social needs, assisting a diverse range of community members, including victims of domestic abuse, the homeless, and the elderly.
Narpinderjit Kaur states, “The doors are forever open, and we try to help every person that approaches us. Our strong network of connections allows us to effectively direct individuals to the right resources.”
UNITED SIKHS’ commitment extends beyond the helpdesk. Volunteers like Sun Kaur, Gurpal Singh, Palvinder Kaur, Bhagvir Singh, Harbans Kaur, Narpinderjit Kaur and countless others have been instrumental in providing services during the COVID-19 pandemic and aiding thousands of displaced people during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. In fact, vital goods and resources were collected in the UK and then transported directly to those impacted from the Ukraine conflict. These efforts embody the mission and vision of UNITED SIKHS, highlighting the organization’s significant impact in various global crises.
This award is not just a personal achievement but a recognition of the collective efforts of all volunteers at UNITED SIKHS. Their tireless efforts, made without any anticipation of acknowledgment or rewards, have significantly impacted the lives of numerous people across the globe. Harpreet Singh, Director at UNITED SIKHS, said, “We are immensely grateful for the recognition we have received in the UK, including the International Sikh of the Year (2023), Pride of Britain Award (2018), and Interfaith Harmony Award (2017). These honors are a testament to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers and the trust our donors place in us.” UNITED SIKHS, a U.N. affiliated, non-profit, and non-governmental organization, is committed to empowering disadvantaged and minority communities around the world. Their focus is on providing humanitarian relief, education, human development, and advocacy to uplift those in need. Their global efforts are dedicated to creating a more equitable and just society where every individual’s rights and dignity are respected
