Walmart supported WEConnect International and WBENC in the creation of a Women Owned logo that can be used by businesses certified by WEConnect or WBENC to clearly identify products and services offered by women owned businesses. All women-owned businesses that are WBENC- and/or WEConnect-certified are eligible to display the logo on their product packaging. To use the logo, a business must be WBENC and/or WEConnect International certified, which means at least 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by a woman or group of women.
Walmart has an ongoing commitment to empowering women around the world and helping women-owned businesses succeed and grow. In September 2011, Walmart launched its Global Women’s Economic Empowerment initiative, using its unique size and scale to improve the lives of underserved women and help women-owned businesses succeed and grow. As part of the initiative, Walmart committed to source $20 billion from women for its US business and double sourcing from women internationally.
Elizabeth A. Vazquez, CEO and Co-Founder of WEConnect International, said, “This is indeed a milestone and we are proud of the partnership with Walmart to provide opportunities to women-owned businesses to succeed.”
