A Round-the-Clock Culinary Adventure at Poee & Co.: What started off as a conversation about ‘Ros Omelettes and Poees’ soon led to the urge to revive the dying art of baking ‘Poee’- Goa’s iconic bread-making tradition.
Many adventures, and many Poees later, Poee and Co. Panjim’s first round the clock restaurant opens its doors serving up a delicious blend of world cuisines and ‘Panjim cuisine’- the latter a new culinary concept coined by Poee & Co. Panjim is a melting pot of many cultures- it is a city where every corner narrates a story & many culinary inspirations & languages have created a new lexicon.
Nestled in the heart of this vivacious city of Panjim, Goa, Poee & Co. is a tribute to Goa’s rich culinary heritage and vibrant culture. From Goan Catholic cuisine, and the Goan Brahmin Saraswat cuisine; to multiple Portuguese & Dutch influences, Panjim cuisine is going to offer a delightful tapestry of dishes from all over the world.
Poee & Co is going to be serving up ‘Poees’ paired deliciously with this very innovative nouvelle cuisine- the all new ‘Panjim cuisine.’ The one of a kind 24/7 dining destination (set to be only in Panjim), is complete with a ‘nostalgic’ bar with delightful beverage concoctions & fun cocktails. It has been conceptualised and is being managed by the Treehouse Group of Hotels & Resorts.
Picture a place where each meal is a timeless journey celebrating the centuries-old tradition of Poee bread. Poee & Co is an unpretentious 64 seater done in pleasing neutral tones, with walls that mimic the texture of the Poee bread. Interspersed with green hues, the bamboo furniture and accessories add an earthy touch to the interiors. Multiple plants add to the tropical vibe, but the food and beverage are the heroes here.
The humble Poee takes center stage here blending seamlessly with an array of global cuisines. The yummy soft doughy Poees (sourced fresh from Poders or local bakers each morning) are paired with global flavours to be the mainstay of the menu. But, if you are looking for something heartier, choose from comforting small plates, delicious biryanis, light salads and soups, as well as a lip-smacking selection of Indian tiffins from across the country.
Each dish is meticulously crafted by Chef Saurabh Tyagi (Corporate Chef, TreeHouse Hotels & Resorts), a maestro renowned for his innovation and authenticity. The beverage selection reflects the same attention to detail. Delicious regional flavours like kokum, pomegranate, Indian spices or even sherbet, dominate the cocktail selection. A section dedicated to nostalgic times comprises a range of edible cocktails, infused with gola’s chuskis and bantas transporting you to carefree school days.
Cuisine and Beverage Note
Poee & Co has been created after much research delved into the lost art of Poee making. This has been a Goan tradition of ‘Poders’ or local bakers baking doughy soft Poees each morning. Poee & Co. sources fresh Poees from local ‘Poders’ to blend local and world flavours in dishes that offer soulful comfort and hearty meals. Guests can anticipate a delightful range of dishes made from locally sourced ingredients, emphasizing freshness and sustainability.
Signature offerings include traditional Goan favourites alongside innovative creations that reflect the region’s multicultural influences from soups like the Siam Tradition (spicy & tangy Thai soup, essence of lemongrass, kaffir lime, chilli & coconut), and The Wild Mushroom Soup (a velvety elixir of wild mushrooms, fresh herbs, touch of cream for luxurious richness); to salads like the Oriental Salad (zesty oriental salad, crisp julienne vegetables, fresh lime, spicy chilli, peanuts & tangy tamarind) and the Super Grain Salad (hearty blend of quinoa, barley, vegetables, Goan cashew, sultana, cucumber, hummus in kokum and pomegranate molasses dressing).
One can pick from the small plates like the Chilli Tadka Hummus Plate (chickpeas, chili, sesame, olive oil), the Muhammara (bell pepper, walnuts, olive oil & paprika) a special on the menu and the famous Shakshuka (poached egg in aromatic tomato sauce, fresh vegetables, chili oil & pepperoncini).
The large plates like the Grilled Chicken Madras Curry (Flame kissed juicy chicken, garden green vegetables, garlic mashed potatoes with infused Madras curry sauce) and finally the Boom Boom Prawns (tempura crisped prawns, mojo verde sauce, peri peri dust) are all deliciously prepared fresh.
They also have options for Indian food lovers like the Chicken Biryani (Fragrant basmati rice layered with tender chicken, aromatic spices and saffron infused flavours) to the Amritsari Chana Pulao (Fragrant basmati rice with vegetables and Kabuli Chana, aromatic spices, cooked to perfection).
Finally to wash it all down, the beverage menu is noteworthy. It includes cocktails like the Monks Old Punch (a delightful concoction of rich dark rum mixed with pineapple and orange juice), the Gulabi Gola (a delicate combination of vodka, rose syrup, and khus, perfect for a floral and refreshing sip), the Jamuni Chuskee (a delightful mix of gin and Indian blackberry offering a tangy, sweet taste) and the Baba ji Ki Booti (a refreshing blend of aniseed-infused white rum and orange liqueur giving a vibrant, aromatic flavour).
For non-alcoholic drinkers the menu has some refreshing coolers such as the Pomegranate Mojito (a fruity twist on the classic mojito with sweet pomegranate juice) and the RIO-DE-GOA (a vibrant blend of tamarind, lime, mint, and ginger ale that harmonizes the tanginess of Goa with the fizz of Rio). Other pleasant drinks include the Imli Twist (a tangy and sweet blend of vodka, tamarind reduction, and lime) and the Narangi Nasha (a refreshing mix of vodka and orange juice for a citrusy buzz).
The dessert menu is mouth-wateringly sinful- the infamous Kuch Toh Gadbad Hai (a delightful concoction of creamy ice cream, crunchy nuts, delightful sauce & fresh fruits) and the signature Poee French Pudding (crafted from a silky custard base, infused with vanilla & honey served with pistachio ice cream) are both must-haves.
“We are thrilled to launch Poee & Co in Goa,” says, Jayant Singh, MD Treehouse Hotels and Resorts & the visionary behind the restaurant. “”Poee & Co is not just a place to eat; it’s a celebration of Goan heritage, a testament to our dedication to quality & the tradition. At our restaurant we understand that great food knows no boundaries of time. Whether it’s an early morning breakfast, a late-night snack, or anything in between, our doors are always open to satisfy your cravings.”
The menu is especially curated by a very modest Chef Saurabh Tyagi who has the distinction of working at world famous restaurants like “Maze” by Gordon Ramsay and at Andrew Fairly which is at the renowned Glen Eagles in Scotland. He has also been the ‘Flying Chef’ with Etihad Airways where he was responsible for the dining experiences where only renowned personalities flew in the Flying Residencies.
While speaking about the menu Chef Saurabh mentioned that “At Poee & Co, our menu pays homage to the humble Poee bread elevating it as the star of each dish and showcasing its versatility. We are proud to initiate the ‘Panjim cuisine’ a distinct fare of delicacies which we’d like to bring forth to our patrons. From classic fillings to modern interpretations, we aim to transport our diners on a flavorful journey that captures the essence of Goa in every bite.”
Poee & Co boasts a warm and inviting atmosphere that reflects the charm and hospitality of Goa. Its interiors blend contemporary design with traditional elements, creating a cosy and welcoming space where guests can relax and enjoy their meals.
