In Season 1, we meet Arisu, a smart but aimless gamer who feels out of place in the real world. One day, he and his two best friends, Karube and Chota, suddenly find themselves in a deserted version of Tokyo. This strange, empty city is part of a deadly game where survival depends on winning dangerous challenges. Every game is indicated with playing cards, expressing its difficulty and peril. The three friends struggle to survive, but disaster hits when Karube and Chota voluntarily sacrifice themselves to save Arisu. Left alone and bereaved, Arisu encounters Usagi, a tough and independent gamer. They both attempt to find out the truth about this fatal game world. Season 1 concludes with them winning through a series of gut-wrenching games and encountering the enigmatic Mira, who promises a grander plot.
Season 2 ratchets up the stakes. Arisu and Usagi play tougher games, symbolized by face cards. They encounter stronger players such as Kyuma, the King of Clubs, and Niragi, now more formidable. These fights are gripping, combining strategy and emotional drama. As they battle, Arisu and Usagi come closer to each other, holding on to one another in terms of loss and terror. The Queen of Hearts is the final battle, as Mira uncovers horrifying facts about this game world. Arisu and Usagi decide to depart, but the unexpected Joker card at the final moment hints that their saga is not over yet.
