Festive season is going on and today is the Vijaydashmi, in other words we can say it Dussehra or Tenth day of Navratri or Durgotsav. It is one of the important Hindu festival where people celebrate it as the day of victory on dashmi. In different states of India people celebrate it in different ways.
On this day in the Treta Yug, King Rama, also called Shri Ram, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, killed Ravana who had abducted Rama’s wife Sita to his kingdom of Lanka. Rama, his brother Lakshmana, their follower Hanuman and an army of monkeys fought a great battle to rescue Sita. The entire narrative is recorded in the epic Ramayana, a Hindu scripture. Also the days is related to the Victory of Durga Mata over Mahishasura.
Today, India is celebrating the eve of Dussehra and along in Chandigarh, Dussehra celebration are going to take place at 23 places. There will be laser shows and other high tech things at few places. Effigies of Ravana and others are prepared at various places and those will be burnt in the evening today.
In Manimajra, The moving effigies would provide a dramatic effect to the festival celebrations, organizers claimed adding that the height of all the effigies will be around 50 feet.
“Dussehra symbolizes the victory of truth over untruth. It is an occasion which teaches us that those who follow the path of virtue, goodness and righteousness always emerge victorious,” said a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement. Further, the President has said, “On the joyous occasion of Dussehra, I extend my heartiest greetings and good wishes to all my fellow citizens. “
