NewZNew (S A S Nagar) : As many as 154 units of blood were collected at the 13th blood donation camp organised by Competent Foundation here today. The camp was inaugurated by the Governor of Punjab and Haryana, Kaptan Singh Solanki, who stressed on the importance of blood donation as a self-less service to save lives.
Sanjay Tandon, Chairman of Competent Group welcomed the chief guest. The camp was held at Competent House, C-157, Industrial Area, Phase-7, Mohali, under the aegis of Competent Group which handles Call Centre, Stock Brokerage, Commodity Brokerage, Insurance Brokerage, Audits and Financial Consultancies.
Taking a first- of- its- kind initiative, Competent Foundation managed the blood donation camp through an innovation mobile app ‘Feet Port’ developed by the CEO of Competent Groove, Saraansh Tandon. The process of the registration of participants and their details were filled in the described format of the app which was accessed by the team of doctors from PGI who scanned the particulars of participants and gave a green a signal. The list of the approved candidates was inspected by a team stationed at next counter which provided cards to the donors. The data will be compiled at PGI.
Talking about the camp, Sanjay Tandon said, “Understanding the Corporate Social Responsibility, Competent Group had formed a Charitable Society Competent Foundation in October 2006. This foundation is known for undertaking various projects to help the under privileged in the society by organizing weekly langars, medical camps, free education, circulating daily good thoughts and weekly stories”.
The PGI authorities thanked Competent Group for this selfless service to the society. Each donor was presented with a Certificate from PGI. Till date the Foundation has given 3,762 units of blood to PGI and GMCH, Chandigarh, through 12 donation camps. Neelam Marwaha, head of PGI’s blood bank, said such camps are a big support as the hospital needs 60,000 units annually and shortage is mostly felt in summers.
Sanjay Tandon thanked all the donors for their participation and blessings. He said if the people start donating blood voluntarily, there will be no shortage of blood in the Country and thousands of lives could be saved.
