NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Hyderabad, the city of Nizams, is known for its dignified culture and sweet melodious language, but there is no denying the fact that the lavish, rich and delectable cuisine that the city offers is what makes it most popular, all over the world. Biryani is a term that is almost synonymous with Hyderabad, while the famous Haleem from this city is flown out every day in kilos to the Middle Eastern countries. Taj Chandigarh, brings all these flavors and more to City Beautiful with it’s aptly named Hyderabad food festival, Dawat –e- Nizaam, from the 8th to the 17th of July for lunch and dinner at Dera, their Indian restaurant.
Chef Jabrail, who has flown in all the way from Hyderabad and carried his special and secret ingredients with him, lays out his many delicacies for this festival. Having come from a long line of Hyderabadi cooks, Chef Jabrails passion for cooking is evident in his creations.
While specialties like Hyderabadi Kachhe Gosht ki Biryani and Nalli Gosht are indeed heavenly, there is no overlooking the perfect Haleem that he has mastered in his 7 year career. The Tala Hua Gosht and Kebabay Firdaus seem straight out of the Nizaam’s kitchen for they are perfect not just in their flavor, but also in their presentation.
His menu breaks the misconception that Hyderabadi food is all about non-vegetarians. He brings in delicacies like the Nazami Handi, Kaddu ka Dalcha and the popular Hyderabadi Khatti Daal and Salan. The two famous Hyderabadi desserts, Double ka Meetha and Khubani ka Meetha can turn anyone into a sweet tooth. However, the show is stolen by the Sheer Khurma that is rarely seen in these parts of the country.
Mr. Surinder Singh, the General Manager of Taj Chandigarh states that his endeavor is to bring in the best of cuisines to Chandigarh. He finds that the people here have an open palate and receive different kinds of food rather well. Having worked himself in Hyderabad for several years, Mr. Singh was amused at what was being passed off as Hyderabadi food in the city. He hopes to ‘bring in the real Hyderabadi food to Chandigarh and have the people see what this cuisine is all about.’ This is also the reason why the GM has ensured that even the pickles were flown in from Hyderabad, so that the entire culinary experience is set to perfection for the guests.
Dera specialities are also a part of the festival for those who are hard core Dera fans. The ghonghura pickle give away seals the journey in pure Taj style with warm and grace.
For food lovers of the city, this is a festival that cannot be missed at all.
