NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Mrs. Poonam Sharma, Mayor of Chandigarh today found a dead lizard in the mid day meal during a visit in Aanganwari Centre situated at H.No. 1538, Mauli Complex, Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh.
In the morning Mayor received a telephonic message about the incident and immediately rushed to the Aanganwari Centre and found that children below the age of 3 years and pregnant women are living there in very pathetic situation. The whole place was very dirty; around 30 children and many women were sitting in a very small space. There was no arrangement for toilet blocks, wash basin for washing hands before taking meal and all the children and pregnant women were sitting in unhygienic conditions.
The staff of the said Aanganwari centre informed that there are 30 such centres situated in Mauli complex and the condition of these centres are very pathetic. The Mayor said that there are approximately 500 such centres situated in all over the city and these are also in much deteriorated conditions.
After visiting the Aanganwari centre, the Mayor met with Sh. Vijay Dev, IAS, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh and apprised about the matter. She requested to the Adviser for calling a meeting with concerned officers to discuss the matter and frame a policy to improve the condition and also for giving better services in the Aanganwari centres including:
The buildings for Aanganwari Centres should be in good condition.
Water Filter (RO system) should be provided for drinking water.
Proper furniture should be provided in these centres.
Provision of clean toilet block should also be created.
Hygienic food should be provided in these centres.
