Governor Punjab and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria Inaugurate CPL 2025: The much-awaited Chandigarh Premier League (CPL) 2025 was formally inaugurated today by the Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh Gulab Chand Kataria in a glittering ceremony attended by dignitaries, franchise owners of Altruistians, Capital Strikers, Chandigarh Kings, Dr Morepen Dazzlers, Panchkula Bashers and Talanoa Tigers, players and cricket enthusiasts at Hotel Novotel on Tuesday.
The Governor, while addressing the gathering lauded the initiative of the Union Territory Cricket Association (UTCA) for providing a robust platform to budding cricketers from the region. He emphasized that tournaments like CPL not only showcase emerging talent but also inspire the youth to adopt sports as a way of life. “Chandigarh has a proud sporting legacy, and CPL is a significant step towards nurturing the next generation of cricketing stars,” he remarked.
The evening witnessed the unveiling of the CPL 2025 trophy amid thunderous applause. Franchise owners and captains were introduced on stage pledging to deliver exciting cricket and uphold the spirit of sportsmanship. With six franchise teams set to compete across 33 matches, the league promises to bring high-voltage action and entertainment for fans in the tricity.
UTCA President Sanjay Tandon, in his address, thanked the Governor for his continued support and encouragement. He highlighted that CPL has grown into a marquee event in the cricketing calendar, offering local players the rare opportunity to share space with experienced domestic and international cricketers. “This league is not just about cricket, it is about building confidence, opportunities and careers,” he added.
On the occasion, Guest of Honour, Ashok Malhotra, former Test cricketer and Chairman, Cricket Advisory Committee, BCCI was also present. While speaking, he remarked, “CPL is a wonderful platform for local talent to showcase their skills. Such leagues not only nurture young cricketers but also prepare them to face bigger challenges at the national and international levels.”
The inaugural ceremony concluded with a cultural performance. The league is starting from August 28 at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16 and concludes with a grand finale on September 13.
