Helmed by Peter Cornwell, ‘The Haunting in Connecticut’ is based on the alleged true story of the Snedeker family of Southington, Connecticut. A family of six rents a house in 1986 but soon begins experiencing paranormal activity. They contact demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. As for the movie’s story, we have the Campbell family. Matt, son of Sara and Peter Campbell, gets admitted to a nearby hospital and begins receiving cancer treatment. When the kid starts having violent nightmares, ones that begin affecting Sara and Peter too, the movie shows the new house’s dark past-one that involves necromancy, séances, and psychic experiments. 3. The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia (2013)

Based on the reportedly true events in the life of the Wyrick house in Ellerslie, Georgia, the film depicts a family of three experiencing apparitions in their new home. Meanwhile, Heidi, the child, makes friends with a man named Mr. Gordy. Meanwhile, her mom, Lisa, begins having visions, which appear to be due to the psychic abilities. As the story unfolds, it comes out that the house used to serve as a shelter for runaway slaves, one of the links in the chain known as the Underground Railroad. The only way for Lisa and her husband, Andy, to eliminate the apparitions is to find out more about the history of their house and learn the truth behind the unexplained phenomena. 2. Orphan: First Kill (2022)

A prequel to ‘Orphan’ (2009), William Brent Bell’s ‘Orphan: First Kill’ sets the record straight about how Leena Klammer’s background. In the first film, she infiltrated a household pretending to be a young girl and soon wreaked havoc. In this film, she escapes a psychiatric facility in Estonia and lands in America, pretending to be the missing daughter of a wealthy family. As their “Esther” starts heaving strangely, we realize that what we have been expecting is slowly revealing itself. However, Leena is in for a surprise, and her new family has some disturbing secrets of its own. Both films are based on the horrifying case of Barbora Skrlová that came to light in 2008. In the case, the search for a 13-year-old missing Czech boy named Adam exposed 33-year-old Barbora, who was posing as the kid to hide from the police and avoid testifying in a 2007 child abuse case. With a gripping narrative and Isabelle Fuhrman’s brilliant performance, ‘Orphan: First Kill’ works both as a worthy sequel and a powerful standalone horror film. You can watch it on Paramount+.

A pioneer of the slasher genre, the movie depicts a group of friends being hunted by a chainsaw-wielding murderer donning a mask made from human skin.
