Extraordinary individuals honoured with ‘Indian Oil Honsle Ki Udaan’ Excellence Award: Tagore Theatre came alive today as extraordinary individuals, who made it big despite numerous challenges in their lives, were recognised and honoured today with prestigious ‘Indian Oil Honsle Ki Udaan’ Excellence Award, amid a grand cultural programme.
Senior IAS officer and Deputy Director Administration (DDA) Pankaj Rai at PGIMER Chandigarh, who was the Chief Guest on the occasion, gave away the awards to the winners. Kartavyanishth, NGO, is the organiser of the event.
The award ceremony started with Ganesh Vandana, which was followed by colourful and cultural programmes. The event saw students performing captivating nati, a Himachali folk dance. Energetic Bhangra performance was also witnessed on the occasion. A play with powerful message to quit drugs was another highlight of the event, which enthralled the audience.
Following this, awards were given away to the champions amid a thunderous applause from the crowd. The gathering also comprised NSS volunteers, who charged the atmosphere with their active presence.
After giving away the awards, the Chief Guest, said, “I am thrilled to be here and the event has encouraged all those present among the audience. Such events should be organised at bigger level so that more can be recognised and take inspiration to do good in life. I have been witnessing that Kartavyanishth has been into social work for over a decade. Its convener Sanjeev Rana has also been working for the cause of martyrs under the “Ek Einth Saheed Ke Naam” campaign.”
Adding to him, Sanjeev Rana, said, “The resilience and high morale of winners serve as an inspiration to many, encouraging others to persevere and strive for goodness in their own lives. By sharing these powerful stories, the event aims to ignite hope and motivate others to overcome their struggles.”
Among Guest of Honour were Chandigarh BJP President Jatinder Pal Malhotra, Dean (Student Welfare) Panjab University Amit Chauhan, Chandigarh College of Architecture Principal Sangeeta Mehta Bagga, UT State Liaison Officer of NSS Dr Nemi Chand, Shree Ram Group of College Chairman Taksh Mittal, and Kasauli International School Vice-Principal Poonam Kumari. Pankaj is moderator during the programme.

During the event, powerful stories of ordinary people were showcased through short videos. Awardees’ list includes two brothers Ashwani and Raj Kumar, who despite being 100% visually impaired, are successfully running their own grocery store in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.
Another story is of 45-year-old Ravi Kumar from Amritsar, who once used to work at a vegetable shop, and has now become a successful entrepreneur. He runs his own pharmaceutical company in Rupnagar.
Architect Shavi Garg, who is deaf and dumb since her childhood, is successfully running her own business in Chandigarh. She, a mother of twin boys, is also among those to be awarded for her indominable spirit. Her husband Romal Garg, who also faces similar challenge in his life, is working as a town planner with the Punjab government in Mohali.
Another awardee on the list is Kunwar Ravinder, a social worker, who is devoted in the welfare of ex-servicemen, martyrs and their families. Whether it is helping in financial needs or doing their other pending administrative works, he has been at the forefront.
Besides, there are two Mohali-based entrepreneurs Kunal Khullar and Mrinal Khullar, both brothers, who started their own venture in software development from a small room 12 years ago and has turned the company into to a major player today. It has Rs 9 crore turnover today and is giving employment to 150 people.
Chandan Sanwal, owner of popular social media handle Chandigarh Bytes, who has done exceptional job in digital space and has made carve a niche for himself, was honoured too.
