Dream11, a name that resounds in the fantasy world of gaming for sports buffs, made a profit of ₹180 crores. With the backing of Dream Sports, India’s leading sports technology company, it has had great financial growth. Let us look at its daily turnover and the trends on revenues.
The Financial Saga
For 2018-19, it lost ₹87 crores despite revenues of ₹775.5 crores and 2020 emerged as its turnaround year, marketing revenues rise sharply to ₹2,070.4 crores.
The principal accomplishment in the Dream11 chronology refers to the $400 million of secondary funding, attaining a valuation of $5 billion for its parent entity Dream Sports.
The company further increased its expenses to ₹1,867 crores in the year 2020, but the bottom line fared much better than in the preceding year.
Advertising was indispensable for Dream11, which made up 71 percent of total expenditure amounting to ₹1,328.02 crores. The company generously financed promotions and perks for the employees, the latter increasing by 133.6 percent to ₹153.21 crores.
Vision for Growth
Harsh Jain, co-founder and CEO of Dream11, stated that the company is in a strong position financially and believes in diversification. In an interview with a leading sports portal, Jain highlighted their strategy:
“Dream11 is already profitable, and we aim to reinvest our EBITDA to drive inorganic growth. While organic expansion remains crucial, we want to avoid the traditional pitfall of handling everything ourselves.”
Jain laid out the vision in the long run to create a larger entity akin to Alphabet Inc., developing several market-leading sports products much like YouTube, Gmail, and Google Maps. This planned addition aims rather to take Dream11 beneath the skin of the original business.
