Owen Cooper was born on 5th December 2009 in Warrington, Cheshire, England. Cooper has two brothers. Cooper was initially interested in playing football and played for the U15 team of Warrington Rylands. But after watching Tom Holland’s role in the movie “The Impossible,” Cooper took acting lessons weekly at the Manchester Drama Mob school.
Rise to Fame with Adolescence
During Cooper’s time at drama school, the casting crew of the new television miniseries “Adolescence” visited the school and requested to see audition tapes of its best young actors. The production crew returned to the school from time to time until Cooper was cast as Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy suspected of killing his female classmate. He emerged victorious among more than 500 other candidates for the role, which would be his screen-acting debut.
Cooper shot “Adolescence” in four months in 2024, and the show premiered on Netflix in March 2025. The series also stars Stephen Graham, Christine Tremarco, Ashley Walters, and Erin Doherty. With four episodes that are all shot in one continuous take, “Adolescence” was an overnight hit with critics and audiences alike. A couple of months later, after his professional on-screen debut in “Adolescence,” Cooper came on-screen in the music video for Sam Fender’s single “Little Bit Closer.” In the latter part of the year, he portrayed Callum in the BBC Three series “Film Club,” written by and starring alongside Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis. Others cast are Suranne Jones, Nabhaan Rizwan, Adam Long, and Liv Hill. Cooper then featured in Emerald Fennell’s 2026 movie adaptation of “Wuthering Heights” as the young version of Heathcliff played by Jacob Elordi. It also features Margot Robbie, Hong Chau, Shazad Latif, and Alison Oliver.
