Why is India and Pakistan’s Independence Day different?
India celebrates its Independence Day on 15 August. However, its neighbouring country Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day on 14 August every year. We have the following statements to refer to to support why India and Pakistan Independence Day are commemorated on different dates.
Pakistan gained powers from Lord Mountbatten on 14 August 1947, a day before India got its Independence. This happened so that Pakistani officials could be present on 15 August 1947 in New Delhi, India on India’s Independence Day.
It is also stated that 14 August 1947 was the 27th day of Ramadan. Thus, the date held immense significance according to the Islamic Calendar. Therefore, Pakistan came forward to celebrate 14 August as Pakistan Independence Day.
