Early Life and Education
Rosanna Scotto was born on April 29, 1958, in New York City to Anthony, a mobster in the Gambino crime family, and Marion, the daughter of Gambino crime family mobster Anthony Anastasio. She was educated at the Catholic school Visitation Academy in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and at the Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn Heights. Following her graduation from the latter in 1976, Scotto went to the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and graduated with a BFA in 1980.
News Broadcasting

Scotto began her career in news broadcasting with the UHF television station WTBS in Atlanta, Georgia. There, she was a reporter on two programs and an associate producer for the station’s news in the evening. Scotto came back to New York City in 1982 and was a reporter for WABC-TV’s “Good Morning New York.” She later became a reporter for WABC-TV’s “Eyewitness News.” Scotto was in this position until 1986, at which point she moved to the Fox station WNYW as a reporter and weekend anchor. In 1990, she was the top female news anchor at WNYW. Scotto then co-anchored the station’s evening and nightly news with Ernie Anastos and anchored the morning news.
In 2008, Scotto became a co-anchor of WNYW Fox 5’s “Good Day New York,” taking Jodi Applegate’s place. She co-anchored the show with Greg Kelly until 2017, except for a brief time in 2012, when her co-anchor was David Price. Scotto was later joined by co-anchor Lori Stokes from 2017-2021 and then by ex-Fox 5 sportscaster Curt Menefee beginning in early 2024. Elsewhere on Fox, Scotto has made a couple of appearances as a co-host on the right-wing political discussion show “The Five.”
Other Media Appearances

Aside from the news, Scotto has had some cameo roles on television shows and movies. She guest-starred in a 1997 cameo as herself on the Fox police procedural drama “New York Undercover,” and in 1998 she was a TV news anchor in the romantic comedy-drama film “The Object of My Affection.” Scotto briefly appeared as herself in the 2016 “Ghostbusters” remake film and in a 2023 episode of the hidden camera prank comedy series “Impractical Jokers.”
Personal Life
She has a son L.J. and a daughter Jenna with her husband Louis Ruggiero, an attorney whom she married in 1986. She is also co-owner of the restaurant Fresco by Scotto in New York City, in which she also occasionally assists in the kitchen and greets guests.
