Becomes highest Punjabi grosser ever, earned 14.72 crore rupees worldwide on opening weekend
NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Diljit Dosanjh starrer Punjabi romantic-comedy ‘Sardaarji’ has become the highest Punjabi grosser ever. The film got a superb start with more than 1000 shows a day across more than 250 screens pan India and nearly 150 screens oversees. That’s the highest figures for a Punjabi film so far. Same is the case with the box office collection which kept on rising from Friday to Sunday. The film has earned Rs. 14.72 cores in its opening weekend and the figure is constantly rising.
Producers of the film Gunbir Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu have given such moments to Punjabi industry earlier too. The have produced and distributed a number of super hit films under their banner White Hill Production and have bagged the national award too. Gunbir Sidhu said, “We truly believe in changing the commercial sense of Punjabi cinema all together by opening new dimensions. We are open to experiments and never compromise on quality of our work. And with the success of Sardaarji it has been proved that audiences prefer quality cinema and healthy scripts. We look forward to continue our journey and improvise more and more.”
Manmord Sidhu was always sure of this film clicking at the box-office. He said, “Script is natural and so are our actors. As far as production is concerned, we have been competing with ourselves only. Be it the Jatt & Juliet franchise or other hits under our banner, we have always set our goals high and with the love of people, we have successfully achieved them too.”
Sardaarji opened with a huge collection of Rs. 2.5 crores in India on the opening day with Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK contributing another Rs. 1.5 crore figure. Saturday saw the figure rising to 5.07 crores and Sunday had a collection of 5.63 crores overall. These collections have been earth shattering for a Punjabi film.
The film is the story of Jaggi, who is a ghost buster in Punjab and has been called to England to catch a ghost in a haunted castle. The film stars Neeru Bajwa, Mandy Takhar and Jaswinder Bhalla in other main characters and is a fun ride. The music is also making waves and attracting the audiences to the screens.
