NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The British School, Sec 44, Chandigarh’s Annual Sports Day started with an impressive march past ; the inaugural event also witnessed lighting of flame & flag hoisting.
Toddlers from Tinkerbells (pre-Kindergarten), Foundation Years (Kindergarten) and Key Stage (primary to senior classes — Ist to XIIth) were part of the enthusiastic sporting events at the lush green playing outfield of the school. The Pre Primary children presented a cute picture when they took part in fun races like Kangaroo race, Rabbit race, Ball balancing, Balloon busting, running, bonded together, shoe runners race et al.
The middle & senior section students showed their athletic prowess in relay race, long jump, 100 meter race, hurdles, and shot put. Some innovative races like skipping race, cycling race, wheel barrow race etc. were also organized. Students participated in races like three legged race, sack race & back race and these were fun & very exciting.
An Aerobics Drill, Dumbles drill, a Yoga demonstration & Skaters Style display added variety to the programme. There were races held for helpers & staff of the school participated in a relay race & tug of war.
“The idea at our school is to develop in students’ sportsman spirit by encouraging taking up of one or the other sport in a regular way. The environment at the Sports Meet was very competitive. Apart from competition the idea was also to make students aware about the adoption of exercise & sports as part of their daily regimen. Every student, staff member & helper of the School simply had a good sporty day out.” Said Mona Sethi, Principal, The British School, Chandigarh.
In the end an award ceremony was held in which individual medals were declared in various events and winning School Houses were also honoured.
