If you enjoy shows that mix comedy, mystery, and futuristic tech, Upload might already be your thing. This show isn’t just fun, it’s smart, weird, and a little emotional in the best way.
The story takes us to 2033, where people can “upload” their consciousness into a virtual afterlife. When a young coder named Nathan Brown dies in a freak accident, he wakes up in Lakeview, a luxurious digital afterlife. It’s beautiful, yes, but there’s a catch, his still-living girlfriend Ingrid controls everything. Nathan soon finds a connection with Nora, a customer service rep from the real world. She is dealing with her own family struggles while also suspecting that Nathan’s death wasn’t an accident at all.
That’s the setup. The story only gets wilder from there, with murder mysteries, love triangles, and a tech world gone too far. And now, Upload Season 4 is almost here!

Catching Up? Here’s a Quick Recap of Seasons 1 to 3
Season 1 starts with Nathan Brown, a young computer programmer, dying in a suspicious self-driving car crash. His mind is uploaded to Lakeview, a luxurious digital afterlife run by the tech company Horizen. Life there is not as perfect as it seems. Nathan struggles to adjust while his rich and controlling girlfriend Ingrid manages his account. He meets Nora, a friendly customer service “angel,” who helps him get used to his new world. Nora soon suspects Nathan’s death was not an accident and notices that parts of his memory are missing. By the end of the season, Nathan learns his death is linked to a project that would make uploads free, threatening powerful corporations. He is downgraded to 2GB status, leaving him with limited access and an uncertain relationship with Nora.
Season 2 brings bigger twists. Nathan regains full access, and Ingrid secretly uploads to Lakeview to stay close to him. Nathan’s bond with Nora grows, while Nora leaves Horizen to join The Ludds, a rebel group fighting corporate control. She uncovers that Freeyond, a free upload service, is actually a scam to exploit the dead for votes. Nathan becomes a backup copy, and by the finale, his cloned body is downloaded into the real world. He and Nora are finally together, but a sudden nosebleed hints his body may not last.
Season 3 features two Nathans, one living with Nora and one still uploaded. Together, they try to stop Horizen’s Freeyond plan from expanding. Ingrid admits she never fully uploaded and used a “hug suit” to appear in Lakeview. The downloaded Nathan is hunted by Horizen, and his clone body starts failing. Lakeview faces glitches and corporate meddling. The season ends with the downloaded Nathan decapitated, leaving only the uploaded Nathan alive, and setting up a tense Season 4.
