Workshop on ‘Gas Chromatography’ held: A hand on workshop on ‘Gas Chromatography’ was organized under the aegis of The Central Instrumentation Facility of DAV College, Sector 10, Chandigarh.
The workshop was as a tribute to scientific temperament of Guru Nanak Dev ji on his 550th birthday year. The workshop was attended by more than 300 students from colleges all over Punjab.
The main aim of the workshop was to familiarize the students with the instrument used in Gas Chromatography. Mr. Pankaj Sharma, Product Specialist from Perkin Elmer talked about the ‘Principle and Applications of Gas chromatography’ and Dr. Tilak Raj, Senior Scientist, Toxicology Division, Central Forensic Laboratory, Ludhiana gave a talk on ‘Applications of Gas Chromatography in Forensics’. Prof Paramjit Khurana, ex Chairperson, Chemistry Department, Panjab University was the chief guest for the occasion.
He congratulated the college for having one of the best facility with a wide range of instruments. Prof K.N. Singh, Chairperson Chemistry Department, Panjab University thanked the teachers and management and conveyed his best wishes. Dr. Dinesh Talwar and Dr. V.K. Vats, ex head Chemistry Department, DAV College gave credit to the young faculty for revolutionizing science in the college and ensured that the workshop was a step in the same direction.
Dr. Kakoli Biswas, Registrar DAV College welcomed the dignitaries and participants on behalf of Principal, Dr. Pawan Kumar Sharma. She said this endeavour was possible because of the support of the college Principal and DAV management.
The live demonstration session witnessed active participation by both teachers and students. The students wanted more of these workshop to be held regularly.
