NewZNew (Panchkula) : Over twenty students from Grades 5 to 10 of Dikshant International School, Zirakpur, staged a very pertinent Street Play ‘Aabadi Ghatao Dharti Bachao’ in Panchkula’s Sec 7 market area, on the occasion of World Population Day. The young actors belonged to the Theatre Club of the School.
The 12-minute play was written & directed by Dikshant International School’s Theatre Teacher Ms Barnali.
The story was based on how an alien- Sissor, who is very close to human life form, comes down to Planet Earth from our neighbouring Galaxy only to find Earth in shambles due to over population. When he starts off for Earth, it looks all green, blue and beautiful from the powerful telescope that Sissor has. But as years pass by he gets closer & the green colour of Earth reduces and it looks quite barren. It takes him almost 500 years to reach Earth & when his spaceship is about to land he can only see the heads of people and concrete jungle all over. After stepping his feet on Earth, he meets few local people and comes to know that the greenery and beauty of Earth has vanished due to overpopulation.
“We explained how population which is bursting at its seams is posing a threat to ecology & green cover of planet Earth.” Said Archit one of the play’s characters.
The young actors from Dikshant enacted the story quite well.
“The message we tried to give through the Street Play was that if population is not controlled in a timely manner, a situation will come when people will start killing each other due to scarcity of basic resources like even water & food.” Said Anushka who also acted in the play.
Through the play the students of Dikshant International School spread awareness of importance of population control. They also threw light on the theme of this year’s World Population Day – : Investing in teenage girls.
“The idea behind of the activity was to bring to the forefront the need for population control. We keep holding such social problems & issues based plays. The stage plays, dramas etc organized through our Theatre Club instill confidence in students & give them a wider perspective in life.” Said Mitul Dikshit, Chairman, Dikshant Group of Schools.
