NewZNew (S A S Nagar) : Two days Mohali Distt carrom tournament concluded at Lawrence public Senior Secondary school . AS many As 85 students from various school participated in it .73 matches were played in this two days tournament. At the moment carrom Association president & Principal of Lawrence School Veena Malhotra distributed prizes in to the winners. In this tournament Mohammad Saif of Govt. Model Sec 56 Chandigarh, Raghav & Roshan SamThomas of Lawrence School were first second & third of sub junior under-14 boys whereas first second third of sub junior under-14 girls were Prabhleen Kaur & Naini Raina of Shivalik Public School Mohali & Ruhani of Mount Carmel School.
Junior under 18 girls winner were Mantasha Ali of Lawrence Public School, Ruhani of Mount Carmel School and Simran Dhiman of Shivalik Public School .Junior under 18 winner boys were Aayush Kumar of Guru Gobind Singh School chd ,Ishan Sharma & Aditya Bhardawaj of Lawerance Public School .In men’s single category Abbas Hussain, Aayyush and Saleem Ahmed won first ,Second and third prize respectively .
While encouraging students to play games Principal veena Malhotra said that carom and chess had played a vital role in moulding the personality of each individual .She further added that playing carom enhance various educational skills. It helps in increasing the logical reasoning power in children. The children can play and having fun at the same time, they practice skills like counting, reading, visual perception, and eye hand coordination etc. This motivates children to involve themselves in healthy competitions, verbal communication and to focus their attention.
