NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Goa Institute of Management (GIM) one of the premier B-Schools in India, hosted its annual Convocation Ceremony for the PGDBM batch of 2013-15 in its campus in Sanquelim. Students turned professional managers received the coveted diploma after having completed over 22 months of academically packed, rigorous training with exposure to live industrial projects as well as community oriented assignments.

A total of 332 students were awarded their diplomas at the convocation ceremony. While 245 are full-time PGDMBA students, 39 are from the part-time MBA program and 48 students are from Post Graduate Diploma in Healthcare Management program (PGDM – HCM). This is the first batch of PGDM – HCM students who have passed out of the recently started PGDM – HCM program.

The event ceremony was presided over by Mr. R Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of the Board of Governors and Dr. Hasit Joshipura, Senior Vice President South Asia and Managing Director, India Glaxo-SmithKline Pharmaceuticals Limited delivered the convocation address. As the first batch of students graduated in Health Care Management (HCM) this year, the presence of Dr Joshipura from Pharmaceutical industry was significantly fitting to the occasion. Dr. C. Joe Arun, SJ Director, GIM, along with other members of the Board of Governors, students and faculty members of the institute were present.

The 21st Convocation ceremony at GIM began with the Director’s Report on the institute’s performance for the last academic year, highlighting the achievements of the B-school and its students. The students of GIM proved that they are the products of one of the best in B-schools across the country with placement offers from some of the top companies in India which included Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Fortis Hospitals, Infosys BPO, HCL, Wipro Technologies, KPMG, among others. 100% of the students have received lucrative placement offers with some securing international postings.

Dr. Hasit Joshipura, handed over the diplomas and special awards of merits to deserving students.  The Gold medal for Best Academic Performance PGDM was handed to Sudeep Mahto while Lokesh Kumar received the Fr. Romuald D’Souza Gold Medal for Best Student of the Year and the Prof. Tarun Pasricha Silver Medal for Academic Performance. GIM Gold Medal for Best Academic Performance Part Time PGDM was awarded to Shalom Mathew Sardinha and the GIM Silver Medal for Best Academic Performance Part Time PGDM was awarded to Leopold Francis Nazareth D’Mello. During the key note address, Dr. Joshipura said, “I would like to congratulate all the graduating students of Goa Institute of Management and especially to the first batch Healthcare Management graduates. It is a proud moment for me to be here today. GIM is one of the best B-schools in India and each one of you should be proud to have been part of this great institute, which is being lead by an amazing faculty.”

Talking at the Convocation, Dr. C. Joe Arun, SJ said, “We want our students to go out as men and women for others and make an influence in policy making that bring in not only economic returns but also social returns.”
