Two and a half million years ago, when human beings first inhabited the surface of the Earth, their lifestyle was quite different from the lifestyle that we have today. Their priorities were not-so-complicated but not-so-easy as well and were centered around one simple principle — only the fit shall survive. They used to spend days searching for animals so that, by the end of each day, they would be able to obtain sufficient nourishment.
Our lives are far more complicated now, and our priorities continue to change, but they do not depend on survival itself. Actually, most of our priorities depend on worldly indulgence and survival has become so much simpler. But if you need to satiate your craving for hunting, Netflix does offer some fantastic, intimidating, and exhilarating hunting shows that are not only entertaining to watch but even provide some information regarding nature.
6. Southern Survival (2020)
All hunting shows do not display live hunting, but they discover various methods of doing so, as well as various methods of survival. An example of such a show is ‘Southern Survival’ where the BattlBox crew design and test various types of outdoor survival devices to determine their usability. The reason that the show is accompanied by the large, bold warning ‘Don’t try this at home’ is that the audience will be watching a no-holds-barred solution full of destruction. 5. Alone Australia (2023-)
The well-known survival test travels to Australia on the self-recorded reality TV show titled as such. Ten individuals are left “alone” in various locations of the West Coast Ranges of Tasmania and have to survive for as long as they can. The sole survivor gets a vast amount of money. There is no communication, and the contestants have to scavenge for food and shelter using their minimal gear and adapt to loneliness through it all. 4. Deadliest Catch (2005- )
‘Deadliest Catch’ brings the hunt to the seas, possibly the deadliest planet in Earth. The show is based on fishermen on board ships searching for crabs in the frigid Bering Sea outside the port of the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. The dangers the men undertake in order to earn a living that way are what make the show worth its name. Indubitably one of the most perilous jobs, the crab fishers bear severe cold temperatures, extreme sea conditions, giant waves, and in-borry dangers while deploying crab pots into the sea and retrieving them afterwards. The series covers two seasons, the king crab season in October and the opilio crab season in January. 3. MeatEater (2012 -)
‘MeatEater’ is a non-fiction outdoor hunting television series created by Zero Point Zero Production featuring the renowned conservationist and outdoorsman Steven Rinella. The program follows its outspoken and adventurous host as he takes on innumerable challenging quests to various regions of the world to discover nature and live the beauty of being in the moment. Other than his thrilling adventures, Steven also brings viewers a realistic perception of hunting by explaining its complexities and demonstrating his ability with his weapons. After he has hunted an animal, it’s then his turn to demonstrate his cooking skills, another part of ‘MeatEater’ that makes it so realistic that a decade after the premiere of its first episode, the show is still raking in a huge following. 2. Win the Wilderness: Alaska (2020)
A Twofour production, ‘Win the Wilderness: Alaska’ is a British reality television show with Duane and Rena Ose as the judges. The program takes six British couples who are in a survival contest against one another for a chance to win a prize home in the Alaskan backcountry. The property was initially owned by Duane and Rena Ose, a family that had relocated to the area in the 80s and constructed the house themselves. Nevertheless, because they are presently in their seventies, the couple desires to pass the property on to the next batch of adventurers who are ready to subject themselves to a few intimidating challenges in order to own the property. Although the entire theme of the show is not hunting, the contestants, on separate occasions, are commissioned to hunt to establish whether they possess survival skills or not. 1. Battlefish (2018)
Commercial fishing is highly competitive and arduous for the people who are part of it. Several documentary shows have been shot based on this theme which showcases how tough these fishing groups are competing against the merciless water. ‘Battlefish’ is a documentary series that captures fishing crews who chase lucrative albacore tuna and how they fight as they match up against others in the Oregon Coast waters. This show explores a bit deeper into every one of the characters, so you end up liking some of the crews slightly more than others, although they are all doing the same amount of work.
