NewZNew (Mohali) : To mark World Cancer Day, an interactive seminar on disease for tricity school teachers was held at Max Super Specialty Hospital ( MSSH), Mohali today. Over 80 school teachers took part in the seminar.
During occasion, the senior doctors of MSSH including Dr. Sachin Gupta, Consultant Medical and Hemato oncology, Dr Shaveta Gupta, Gynae Oncologist , Dr. Sunandan Sharma, Consultant, Surgical Oncology and Dr. Sunandan Sharma, Consultant, Surgical Oncology discussed how to implement what we have already known in the areas of prevention, early detection, treatment and care of cancer.
Dr. Sachin Gupta talked about the myths related to cancer. He explained that cancer was a non-contagious disease. He also revealed that biopsy was important for cancer diagnosis. Many patients did not get this test done because of the fear of spread of cancer cells. Most of the cancers were curable if disease was diagnosed early, he maintained.
Dr Shaveta Gupta educated about ‘cancers in female , its early diagnosis and treatment and vaccines’ . Dr Gupta emphasized on prevention of leading cancers in women by annual pap smear and mammography. She also recommended vaccination in young girls for prevention of viral infection which can lead to cervical cancer.
Dr. Sunandan Sharma spoke about ‘approach to breast lump’ whereas Dr. Gautam Goyal, consultant talked about on Prevention of cancer- Diet and lifestyle. Dr Ritesh Pruthy, Consultant, Surgical Oncology and Dr Pankaj Kumar, Consultant, Radiation Oncology were also presented in the seminar.
Mr. Sandeep Dogra, VP-Operations, MSSH said that cancer day was a unique opportunity to raise awareness that there was much that could be done at an individual and community level .
Interestingly the doctors articulated their talks around 4 key areas of focus namely choosing healthy lives, delivering early detection, achieving treatment for all and maximizing quality of life.
