Panchkula
A two-day workshop was organized on February 6 and 7, 2026 on the topic “Kitchen for Research: Career Opportunities in Botany Science” in collaboration with Department of Botany in Government Post Graduate College, Sector-1, Panchkula. The objective of the workshop was to expose students to research, practical knowledge and career opportunities available to women.
On this occasion Dr. Assistant Professor of Botany Department of Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Amrita Sharma was present as the Chief Resource Person. He informed the students in detail about the role of women in the field of research, women entrepreneurship, current situation and future prospects.
Dr. Amrita Sharma in her lecture inspired the female students to become self-reliant, try new experiments and advance in the field of science. He said that nowadays there are many opportunities available for women in the field of research and entrepreneurship, by taking advantage of which they can build their bright future.
In this workshop M.Sc. (Botany) and B.Sc. Students of Life Sciences participated enthusiastically. On the second day of the workshop, the students were given hands-on training in the laboratory. During this, they were given information about the experiments related to the identification and testing of various chemicals in plants, which increased the practical knowledge of the students.
The workshop proved to be very useful and informative for the students. This gave the students not only theoretical but also practical knowledge. Addressing the students, the principal of the college, Dr. Shailaza Chhabra, said that there are many things available in our kitchen which are a treasure of health. Along with this, she said that our ancestors have taught us how to make a kitchen garden for generations. All the faculty members of the Department of Botany — Dr. Suman, Dr. Mamta, Dr. Shalya, Dr. Priyank and Dr. Rashmi contributed significantly to the successful organization of the workshop.
Finally, thanks were given to the resource persons and all the participating students on behalf of the women’s cell.
