A state-of-the-art kidney transplant unit has launched at Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula today. The unit will cater to the needs of patients from Haryana, Himachal, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir and adjoining areas of UP and Uttrakhand.
The unit will be run by a team comprising of Dr Neeraj Goyal, consultant-urologist, laparoscopic & transplant surgeon, Dr Ramesh Kumar and Dr Charanjit Lal both consultants-nephrologists and Dr Rajiv Goyal, consultant-urologist.
Speaking during occasion, Dr Neeraj said that due to the rising problem of diabetes and hypertension, more than 2-lakh new patients develop chronic kidney failure every year, in our country. However, due to lack of awareness and unavailability of potential donor, Kidney transplant is feasible only in about 5000 patients, every year. This huge discrepancy between need and supply could be bridged, if organs from brain dead accident victims (around 4-lakh every year), were made available for transplant.”
Meanwhile Dr Neeraj Goyal is a renowned surgeon in urology and transplant fraternity. He has performed and managed large number of kidney transplants with results at par with best centres across India. Dr Ramesh Kumar and Dr Charanjit Lal both are highly experienced nephrologists of the region and have a vast exposure in managing difficult transplants including all types of kidney allograft rejections. Dr Rajiv has been trained at prestigious institute, SGPGI Lucknow.
