NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Talks have been on to give a new look to all the 12 Apni Mandis of the city and the one in Ward No. 2 is all set for the makeover. Area’s MC Councilor and member of Apni Mandi Committee Saurabh Joshi and the local residents initiated the work today. Joshi informed that the Mandi is set weekly in the ground adjacent to DAV School, Sector-15. A total budget of Rs. 22 lacs has been passed which would be spent from the Councilor’s Fund. The secretary of Apni Mandi Committee Jaipal, XEN, Gursharan Singh, SDO, Rajesh Kumar, JE were also present at the scene.
Joshi told that residents from Sector-10, 11, 12, 14, 25, 24, 23, 16, Naya Gaon, Khudda Lahora, Khudda Jassu, Khudda Alisher and other areas specially visit this Mandi to purchase cheaper and fresh vegetables and grocery. Around 80% of the buyers are women who have to walk on uneven surface in winters and rainy season. Also there is a big problem of parking tractor-trollies, tempos and private vehicles. These problems will be rectified with this makeover.
It is worth mentioning that this Mandi is set every Wednesday and farmers from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and other nearby areas come with fresh vegetables on tractor-trollies and tempos. Proper parking lots and street lights will be installed in this repair work. There would be a 20-feet broad parking lot enough for parking two and four wheelers. Also there would be 8-feet broad pathway build inside the Mandi.
