Bollywood diva Anushka Sharma & Fashion Icon Sonam Kapoor flaunt his collection “Rafugar” : Mohammad Mazhar, a graduate in Fashion Design from INIFD Chandigarh, hails from humble background with his roots from a small City Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His dedication and hard work in INIFD helped him fight all odds to become a star designer sharing limelight with the top names of the fashion Industry.
The young talented designer has to his credit dressing up big Bollywood stars like Anushka Sharma, Sonam Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Swara Bhaskar, Sana Khan, Kritika Kamra, TV artist Riddhi Dogra, superstar from South Samantha Prabhu and many more.
His exciting and challenging journey in the fashion industry started when he first showcased his Collection ‘Dhobi Ghat’ inspired by the idiosyncrasies of the labour class at Dhobi Ghat, as part of the Gen Next Designers at India’s biggest fashion platform Lakmé Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2018 held at Mumbai.
In a short span of 1 season & huge success of ‘Dhobi Ghat’ as a Gen Next Designer Mohammad Mazhar graduated from Gen Next Designer to an Emerging Designer and presented ‘Rafugar’ – an untold Indian story for Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/ Festive 2018 and since then there has been no looking back for the young designer.
Mazhar’s passion for Indian artisans and art makes his style very classic. He prefers to work mostly with white, black & neutral colours and prefers working with Indian fabrics, cottons in particular. For him one white kurta, a pair of black pants is just something that is timeless and modern at the same time.
Known for his simplicity and minimalistic designing Mazhar is making waves in the Fashion world with his creativity and immense talent. His Collections are now available at many big Retail outlets, nationally as well as internationally.
He likes to approach his projects in a way that helps Indian artisans promote their work and have a better life. He said, “I meet the artisans personally and their work inspires me beyond anything else. I want to represent their interests on an international platform.” Mohammed believes in taking each day as it comes, without diverting from his key aim — to enrich the lives of the Indian artisans he works with, especially financially. He motivated the young budding designers of INIFD Chandigarh during the one-day workshop and inspired them as he shared his experiences with them.
