NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Binging on the entrepreneurial spirit of North India, A S Mittal, Chairman, Regional Council, ASSOCHAM said, “We have set the aim this year to enhance the skill set of the youth and take advantage of the inherent entrepreneurial spirit.”

“To realise the ‘Make in India’ dream and harness the entrepreneurial demographic richness of this region, bridging the skill gap is the only solution. An innovative entrepreneurship shall give the required boost the Make in India initiative”, he said.

Mittal was speaking during the first meeting of the first Regional Council of ASSOCHAM, here at Chandigarh. A S Mittal, Vice Chairman, International Tractors Limited has taken over as the first Chairman of ASSOCHAM India’s Regional Council for North India.  Rakesh Kerwell, Executive Director (North), DLF is the Co-Chairman of the newly framed Regional Council.

“Only by making the environment more conducive for the growth of the North India’s industrial capacities, we can enable the industry in the region to be globally competitive”, said Mittal. We need to equip our youth with the information and the requisite skill set is pertinent, and make our youth industry-ready to deliver quality, he added.

ASSOCHAM shall work closely with the State Governments, educational institutions and industry of the region towards achieving this goal, he added.

“As a representative organ of Corporate India, we shall articulate the genuine, legitimate needs and interests of industry to impact the policy and legislative environment so as to foster balanced economic, industrial and social development”, shared Kerwell adding that, “In line with the national agenda, we shall endeavor to empower enterprise in North India by inculcating knowledge that will be the catalyst of growth in the barrier-free technology driven global market and help them upscale, align and emerge as formidable player in respective business segments.”

Sharing that the thrust areas for operations for the Regional Council being Agriculture & Agri-Business, and Food Processing Education & Skill Development, MSME, Health & Pharma, IT & ITES, Infrastructure/ Real Estate, Innovation & IPRs, Banking & Financial Services, Insurance, Dalip Sharma, Director, ASSOCHAM Chandigarh said, the sector wise committees have been devised which shall work towards creating the required environment. The committees shall initiate and encourage collaborative thought process to explore new trends, opportunities, and challenges in entrepreneurship and youth empowerment.

Together the committees shall work to enable, accelerate and spearhead not only the ‘Make in India’ campaign in North India but also to showcase to the world the ‘Made in India’ products, Sharma, said, “In line with the concept, ASSOCHAM shall organize focused industrial expos both B2B & B2C to showcase the indigenous craftsmanship of Northern India.”
