NewZNew (Chandigarh) : More than 1200 students from the tricity schools today took part in the’ Millennium Mini Marathon organized by CII-Yi in association with The Millennium School, Mohali in association with (Young Indian) for the awareness of clean environment under Swatch Bharat Abhiyaan. The marathon which flagged off from The Millennium School, Sector 67, Mohali was divided into 6 different age groups and covered approximately 5-6 kms under different categories spreading the message cleanliness. The students under the special drive also cleaned the area around the school premises.
Jaiprakash Hasrajani, Chair, CII – Yi Chandigarh Tricity Chapter shared that “We are proud to have second year of CII Yi Minithon in partnership with The Millennium School. Great to have agenda of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan attached to such initiative which spreads message of being fit, working together towards one mission. We thank all participants, specially students from schools across tricity, to make this initiative highly successful”
On the success of Minithon Mr Robin Aggarwal, Past Chair, CII Yi Chandigarh Tricity Chapter and Director, The Millennium School mentioned “We are very encouraged with the participation of more than 1200 students for our annual minithon that we have organised to support Swachh Bharat ABHIYAN. We hope that spread of healthy living and cleanliness through this event”.
“Though a lot has been said about the cleanliness but many more have to be sensitized, the uninformed have to be informed”, he added.
Explaining about the project he further stated that under CII – Yi alone there have been more than 200 events done nationwide to promote Clean India and we are going to continue our drive till people of India feel it their utmost responsibility to keep the country clean .
“More encouraging is that not only students of tricity schools but parents too have participated in marathon with same enthusiasm”, said Ms Komal Singh, Principal, The Millennium School.
While Shagun from The Millennium School, Mohali won under 8 Girls category, Shivesh from Anees School won the boys category. In the under 10 boys category Mohd Sahil of Vivek High School, Mohali completed in the lowest time while Manpreet in Girls category from Ryan School won the same category. The under 12 girl’s category was won by Parachi of Vivek High School, Chandigarh while the under 12 boys category was won by Parneet of Gem Public School, Mohali. In the under 15 girl’s category Upneet from Ryan International School, Chd and Varun from Sports Stadium, Sohana won under boys category. In the open category above 15 Sumit of Government Model Senior secondary school – 46 won the boys category whereas Nancyveen Kaur of Gem Public school under girls category.
While the students were given refreshment on regular intervals, Fortis hospital took the responsibility of their health with a dedicated ambulance for the marathon.
