NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for Dhuri By poll, where voting would take place on April 11.
A spokesman of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab today said that the notification would be issued on March 17 and last date of making nomination has been declared on 24 March. He further said that scrutiny of nominations would take place on March 25, whereas last date for withdrawal of candidatures would be March 27. Date of poll has been fixed on April 11 between 8 AM to 5 PM and counting of votes would be held on April 15. He said that the election process should be completed before April 18.
He further said that the electoral rolls of the assembly constituency have been revised with reference to 01.01.2015 as the qualifying date and have been finally published on 05.01.2015 in Punjab.
He also said that the commission has decided to use EVMs in the bye-election in all the polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs have been made available and all steps have been taken to ensure that the polls are conducted smoothly with the help of these machines.
The spokesperson further added that the model code of conduct has came in force with immediate effect in the district(S) in which or any part of the assembly constituency going for bye-election is included. The model code of conduct would be applicable to all candidates, political parties and the state government concerned. The model codes of conduct would also applicable to the union government for the state concerned.
