DC reviews construction of Central Jail
NewZNew (Bathinda) : The Rs 176.61 cr Bathinda Central Jail being constructed at the village Gobindpura has neared completion. The jail is being constructed for the male convicts and under-trials as well as the female inmates.
The Deputy Commissioner Bathinda Dr Basant Garg today reviewed the construction work going on at village Gobindpura. Having inspected the works done so far he said that the final touches are being given to the women jail, which would be ready by March 31. He directed the officials of B and R department and the private company carrying out construction work, to complete the project at a fast pace and the quality of works done should be the best one. He directed the officials presented to fasten the work on men’s jail so that it is readied by June 30.
Dr Garg said that the project covers 69 acres of area of which 40 the men’s jail is being constructed in 40 acres and the rest 29 acres would have jail for women. He said that the Punjab government was getting modern jail constructed where the inmates could be reformed.
The women jail would have workshop, training center, school, crèche, playground and other modern facilities. He added that men’s section would have drug de-addiction center, hospital, workshop, water works, multipurpose hall, training center, religious institutions and sports facilities.
XEN B and R Mr Neeraj Bhandari said that this two-storey project for men inmates has 13 blocks with a capacity to accommodate 2100 inmates and the women jail has five blocks with a capacity to accommodate 275 females. The boundary wall of jail is 18 feet high and for patrolling road network has been laid inside the jail premises.
B and R SE Er SPS Samra, SDO Mandar Singh and the officials of Sunil High Tech Engineers Construction were also present.
