NewZNew (Chandigarh – Kulbir Singh Kalsi) : In keeping with the spirit of adventure in the Indian Army and to commemorate the 50 years of the raising of Golden Key Division, a 15 member High Altitude Biking Expedition Team of the Division was flagged off by Major General MS Ghura, General Officer Commanding on 08 May 2015 from Clement Town, Dehradun. The expedition aims to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Year 2015 with the spirit of adventure, camaraderie and patriotism in the rich and diverse high altitude valleys of Himachal Pradesh which form part of the Western Command.
The expedition started from Dehradun and will pass through the Spiti Valley via Shimla and finish at Manali. On the way, the expedition will climb the arduous and inhospitable areas of Kunjom Pass (4551 meters) and picturesque Chandertal (4300 meters).
The multi-dimensional expedition will meet the locals enroute and will provide humanitarian aid by distributing essential commodities and medicines. The Expedition Team will re-connect with the local veterans enroute and motivate the young and aspiring youths by undertaking motivational talks on ‘Becoming a better Indian’, ‘Joining the Army’ and ‘Women Empowerment’.
This expedition of Golden Key Division will finally terminate at Dehradun on 04 June 2015 to commemorate its Golden Jubilee Year and celebrate the Division’s rich history, sacrifices of its Martyrs, Veer Naris and ethos, which also symbolizes that of the Indian Army.
