10,000 School Students take part; Pledge against Drugs

NewZNew (Amritsar) : Around Ten Thousand young students of Amritsar today made history by their dance performance and taking pledge against Drugs Abuse at the Khalsa College here today to enter into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest ever dance performance in one place.

The event to spread awareness against drugs, was motivated and spearheaded by Padma Shri awardee Vikramjit S. Sahney, Chairman-Sun Foundation and the local administration through Mr. Ravi Bhagat, the Deputy Commissioner. Sun Foundation motivated the youth through the slogan “Shake Your Legs, Keep Away from Drugs”.

The entire event was monitored by 10 CCTV Cameras and judged by 200 judges for a 5 minutes synchronised performance by the largest gathering of participants. The performance was well choreographed by prominent choreographers Pankaj and Preeti.   Former Indian Cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.

Inspiring and Motivating Public Interest Messages (PIMs) and song “Karo Iraada, Pakka Vada, Aaj Nasha Tum Chodoge” against substance abuse was delivered by Mr. Vikramjit S. Sahney at the venue.  The youth present for the performance unanimously took pledge towards drug free life making the event even more historical.

Mr. Ravi Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner, the man behind the initiative, while speaking on the occasion said that this initiative will give a fillip to ongoing anti-drugs campaign in the state. Youth is the future of our country and If Youth decides to take a positive outlook towards life, then there is no barrier for India to be Number One in the world, in all respects!

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Vikramjit S. Sahney expressed his concern, “Drug abuse has become a rampant social problem in recent years especially amongst young adults. It is affecting the social fabric of the country, affecting not only the user but also his family and the whole society. It is our firm commitment towards humanity towards motivating people to respect life and keep away from drugs.”

Mr. Sahney also announced that Sun Foundation will be partnering with the Government  shortly and run the Skill & Occupational Therapy Centre of Swami Vivekanand De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre’ at Amritsar. The Foundation will also assist in activities including Motivational Therapy, Yoga, Group Therapy, Dance Therapy, Meditation etc. and also provide amenities to the center including eight-seater vehicle for transport, equipment for Printing Press, computers for Computer Lab, Musical Instruments for Music therapy and Professional training, Set-up for IT Training on Mobile repair and Salaries of the Trainers for above programmes.

It was in 2012, 4400 children gathered in Mumbai and registered world record with the inclusion of Mumbai in world record book, which was broken here today.
