NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Mrs. Poonam Sharma, Mayor and Mrs. Bhawna Garg, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation today handed over cheques of Rs. 2 lakh each to the wives of three victims of toxic gases on entering a sewer chamber on May 30. Sh. Rajiv Gupta, Joint Commissioner and Sh. Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer were also present during the occasion.
The families of the victims namely Smt. Sunita, W/o Late Sh. Ashrphi, Smt. Santosh, W/o Late Sh. Prem Lal and Smt. Harwati, W/o Late Sh. Dhan Singh, all residents of Gandhi Colony in Panchkula were given ex-gratia financial help of Rs. 2 lakh each in the Municipal Corporation building, here today.
Mayor said that Municipal Corporation has ensured job to the widows of all the three victims to run their livelihood. She said that keeping in view the kids in the family, jobs will be ensured nearby their houses, such as in Manimajra area. She said that one month ration had already been delivered to them and she will take up the matter of stipend to their children and help in education with the Social Welfare Department, UT, Chandigarh.
She expressed her grief and said that nobody can take place of the victims, but I ensure all kind of help to the families from my side in future. She further said that strict action will be taken against the contractor of the labourers as per law.
