MC celebrates Baisakhi at Sector 46

NewzNew- The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized a colourfull function to mark Baisakhi today at Sector 46, Chandigarh from 5.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m.

Mrs. Kavita Singh, IAS, MD, CITCO, Chandigarh was the chief guest during the occasion and Ms. Kavita Das, principal, St. John’s High School, Chandigarh was the Guest of Honour.

The cultural function was started by the Chief Guest by lighting of lamp in presence of Smt. Asha Jaswal, Mayor, Sh. Satya Pal Jain, Addditional Solicitor General of India, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Senior Deputy Mayor, Sh. Sanjay Tandon, President, BJP, Chandigarh, Mrs. Sunita Dhawan, Chairperson, Arts, Sports & Culture Committee, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, area councilor, Sh. N.P. Sharma, Chief Engineer, MC, Chandigarh, other councilors & officers of MC, prominent persons of the city and local residents.

Smt. Asha Jaswal, Mayor of Chandigarh, said that people living in cities like Chandigarh should come out of their houses to celebrate traditional culture of the country. This auspicious day is not only important for the farmers, but also the citizens of metropolitan cities by getting a chance to know the rich values of our culture.

Earlier, Smt. Sunita Dhawan, Chairperson, Arts, Sports & Culture Committee, MC, Chandigarh welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries/guests during the occasion. She said that motive behind organizing this function is to create awareness among the city youngsters about our rich culture and tradition.

She said that the children of cities should know about our culture, functions and celebrations. Baisakhi is a time for re-union of friends of friends and families, elders bless the younger generation and people distribute food and clothes to the poor people and perform dance, she added.

Famous Punjabi singers including Parm Chandel, Vivel Sharma, Meet Niman enthralled the audience by their hit punjabi numbers during the cultural function. Skit on Swachh Bharat was also staged during the evening. Various other cultural programmes were also organized by college students including Giddha, Bhangra and Luddi dance performances.

Earlier, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Dhillon, area councilor addressed the audience and extended vote of thanks to all including Chief Guest, Guest of Honour, other dignitaries and councilors of MC, Chandigarh.
