NewZNew (Chandigarh) : The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized Children’s day in Nehru Park, sector 22, here today. Near about thousand children alongwith their parents from different parts of city among slums participated in this colourful event.
During the children day celebrations various competitions were organized by the Municipal Corporation including Painting/Drawing Competition, Clay modeling, Quiz, Declamation contest and fancy dress competitions. Lucrative prizes i.e. Rs. 3100 for 1st, Rs. 2100 for 2nd and Rs. 1100 for 3rd winners woos the attractions of the children to participate in this event.
Mrs. Poonam Sharma, Mayor of Chandigarh was the chief guest during the function and distributed prizes among the winners. She said that children of the villages and colonies needs platform to express their skills and the Municipal Corporation is providing the same to them by organizing such events. These type of events boost the skillful children from different areas of the city. She said that the themes including remembrance of Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru, Swachha Bharat, Save Girl Child, Save Environment, Traffic Rules etc. were the best selection for the awareness of the children regarding these topics.
In the morning, Sh. Harphool Chander Kalyan, Chairman, Arts, Culture & sports committee, MC, Chandigarh thrown open the celebration at 11 am along with the participating children and dignitaries Smt. Gurbax Rawat, Deputy Mayor, Sh. Pardeep Chhabra, former Mayor and area councilor, Smt. Harjinder Kaur, Sh. Darshan Garg, Sh. Rajiv Gupta, Joint Commissioner, Sh. N.P. Sharma, Superintending Engineer, B&R, other councilors, officers of MC and prominent residents of the city beautiful were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Sh. H.C. Kalyan said that Children should not think about the prizes but they focus their minds in the competition and their projects because only those can come 1st, 2nd & 3rd who participate in the event so children will have the spirit to participate in the events. She also said that the knowledge of education without moral values is not complete.
He said that children’s day known as Bal Diwas in India is celebrated on Pandit Nehru’s birthday as a day of fun and frolic, a celebration of childhood, children and Nehru ji’s love for them. He said that this year the event had to be postponed from November 14 to 18 but the enthusiasm among children for participation in this event today is exceptional.
Sh. Pardeep Chhabra, area councillor said that Chacha Nehru as the children fondly referred to him, was fond of both children and roses. In fact the often compared the two, saying that children were like the buds in a garden. They should be carefully and lovingly nurtured, as they were the future of the nation and the citizens of tomorrow. He felt that children are the real strength of a country and the very foundation of society. He was the ‘beloved’ of all the children who gave him the enduring name of Chacha Nehru.
During the function magic show, walking characters, Theater workshop, pottery workshop, clay modeling workshop were organized, kite flying show, which attracts most the children. Students from various schools performed dance items, poems, songs and many more. Dozens of consolation prizes were also distributed among the children during the function. A fire safety workshop was also organized by the Fire & Emergency department, MC on this occasion.
During the occasion, students from government schools presented a play “Billu aur bachhon ki kahani” under the banner of Inderadhanush Rangmanch, Chandigarh.
