MCC organizes cricket tournament for its employees: To build a vibrant culture that looks beyond work and engages its employees in various activities with teamwork, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has organized a cricket inter departmental cricket tournament for its employees at cricket stadium, sector 16, Chandigarh.
Sh. Anup Gupta, Mayor, Chandigarh formally inaugurated the first cricket match between employees team in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner and other officers of MCC.
During the tournament total seven teams participated including teams of CMC office, Engineering Department, Fire Department, Sanitation Department and Door to Door waste collectors.
While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that this is a great initiative and the biggest benefits are personal fitness and engagement with colleagues. He said that sporting activities at work improve team performance, organizational productivity, and employee health. The benefits included improvements in individual health outcomes, reduced sickness costs, increased work performance, and team cohesion among those participating and others employees also.
He said that sports can play a positive role in the workplace. People who play sports tend to be better team players. They have more resilience and discipline, and deal with failure better. After all, it teaches every individual that wins don’t happen every day, said the Mayor adding that making sports a part of the workplace offers significant gains to the organizations.
The Mayor said that the MCC has given opportunity to all sections of its organization including door to door waste collectors and gardners, safaimitras, sewermen and other employees such as firemen, engineers, office staff and field staff. He said that matches between senior officers and councilors will also be played to strengthen the bonds among all as one MCC family.
