NewZNew (Zirakpur) : A Model Rocketry Festival has started at Dikshant Global School, VIP Road, Zirakpur. Hundred students from different schools of tricity are participating in the festival which will be held till December 19. The International Space Society (ISS) – an International non-profit, educational and scientific organisation specialising in space advocacy in collaboration with Rocketeers- India’s first Model Rocketry agency co-founded by ex-ISRO scientists, are organizing the unique event.
Experts in Model Rocketry –a science of building Rocket Models that fly, took theoretical workshops with students to accustom the young Rocketry enthusiasts with the science as well as art behind Model Rocket building. This was followed by a build session and the grand finale was a flying event in which experts showed the students how the model rockets are put in the air using launchers. This activity was very exciting for the students & all who had gathered at the spot, as it not only made students see how model rockets are launched and put into the air but also provided a pretty picture.
“This festival is a pioneering effort in the country. The reason behind this is that we are teaching students for the first time in all of India how to build ‘solid black powder fuel’ powered model rockets. A major objective behind this kind of a festival is to spread awareness about space industry & rocket science among school students and to encourage them for a career in science.” Said Divyanshu Poddar, Co-Founder, Rocketeers.
Over two days students will be put through Basic Rocket Science, Aerodynamics & how to fly, flight mechanics & stability, Rockets & Jet Engines, Flight sessions, Model Rocket System design et al.
“This is a one of a kind event which will showcase the amazing world of rockets and the science behind them and make students more enthusiastic towards learning science and math. We plan to make this an Annual Calendar event that will take place at our Dikshant Global School campus in Zirakpur where enthusiasts can participate to learn and pursue model rocketry” Said Mitul Dikshit, President, ISS & Chairman, Dikshant Group of Schools.
On the final day students will go through Career counseling sessions & engage in informal discussions with experts. This will be followed up with a Q & A session. The real fun will be when the students actually participate in a Race to design, build, test & fly his or her Rocket.
