Mondelez India Announces “ShubhAarambh” in Himachal Pradesh

One of the largest programmes in the Solan District that will initially
operate in 7 villages and impact over 1700 beneficiaries over three years

NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Mondelez India Foods Ltd. (formerly known as Cadbury India Ltd.) today announced its long term community initiative“ShubhAarambh”forSolan District of Himachal Pradesh. The programme was launched by Honorable Shri MukeshAgnihotri, Industry Minister, Government of Himachal Pradesh at the company’s largest manufacturing plant in India in Baddi, Solan District in the presence of senior government dignitaries and other officials. ShubhAarambhwill initiallycover seven villages and impact over 1700 beneficiaries over three years in Solan district.

Mondelez India has partnered with twoNGOs – Save the Children and Magic Bus – to develop a unique delivery model to implement this multi-pronged and multi-year programme. Local delivery of the programme will be done by Himachal Pradesh Voluntary Health Association. The programme will be supported by the Mondelez International Foundation in addition to local funding.

The villages in Solan district that will be impacted by this programme initially are:Sandholi, BaddiSitalpur, BadiSitalpur (Og) (Part) Ward No.-0010, Landewal, BilanwaliGujran, BilanwaliGujran (Og) (Part) Ward No.-0012 and Haripur.

Shubh Aarambh will include programmes targeting…

  • mothers and their children in the age group of 0-6 for early healthcare, nutrition and health education – thereby impacting young children
  • children in the age group of 7-14 to promote physical and sports activities, nutrition education and positive social and life skills
  • youth in the age group of 15-18 trained to become peer leaders to build a sustainable, active and healthy community and enhance employability
  • community to build awareness and knowledge of affordable nutrient rich fruits, vegetables and establishment of kitchen gardens.

In Solan, the ShubhAarambhprogrammewillcreate five well-equipped and safe play-spaces in the schools and communities in seven villages around Baddi.  It will provide sports kits and organize sporting events to increase playing opportunities for children. An Active Play for Development curriculum will be introduced in the schools and communities, which will promote sports, participation, health and nutrition and life-skills.

In addition to this, a health and nutrition curriculum will be put in place for school-aged children. Seven kitchen nutrition gardens will be established to promote growing fresh foods and their healthy preparation. Community based structures like Mothers committees and children & adolescent groups will be created to impart knowledge, access and utilization of health and nutritional services

This programme is part of the larger Mondelez India Foods Limited ShubhAarambh CSRprogramme that will be activated in 41 villages across India –  in five states of Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

ShubhAarambh will address children across the age groups of 0-6, 7-14 and youth from 15-18 and will work alongside parents, educators and community health workers to help improve nutrition and health, encourage sports and play, deliver development messages, train youth leaders  and enhance employability.
