Chandigarh is undertaking steps to adopt e-mobility under the Smart Cities Mission of the Ministry of Urban Development. As the city suffers from severe air pollution, switching to EVs has become critical. The UT has set a few agendas to encourage people to adopt electric vehicles.
“The awareness of and demand for electric vehicles are at an all-time high right now, and there is a favourable environment that is encouraging the use of e-vehicles, including the updated FAME II, state policies, and an increase in fuel prices. Our entry into the Punjab market is a step toward realising our vision of clean, emission-free mobility as the demand for electric vehicles rises. Furthermore, Chandigarh is moving forward with the adoption of electric mobility as soon as possible in order to qualify as a smart city under the Ministry of Urban Development’s Smart Cities Mission. Besides, the city, with the highest density of vehicles in India, is also looking to adopt EVs aggressively as it faces a huge challenge in maintaining the deteriorating air quality.” said Mr. Ayush Lohia, CEO, Lohia Auto Industries.
“In this upbeat atmosphere, we believe Punjab is a crucial market for us since we are able to give them a cleaner form of transportation that offers an urgently needed emission-free mobility solution,” further added Mr. Ayush Lohia.
The company already has a manufacturing unit based out of Kashipur, Uttrakhand, with the capacity to produce 100,000 units per year of 2 and 3-wheelers, which will cater to the additional demand coming in from the Punjab market.
