NewZNew (Chandigarh) : Acting on the directions of Dr. S.B. Deepak Kumar, I.A.S. Deputy Commissioner–cum-Excise and Taxation Commissioner, U.T, Chandigarh, the Excise Wing of the Department has conducted surprise raids on various units involved in the sale of liquor to weed out any illegal activity concerning sale and consumption of liquor. This operation continued till 4 pm in the morning.

A team comprising of S K Garg, Excise & Taxation Officer (excise) , Munish Nayyar and S.S. Bedi both excise & taxation officers (VAT), excise inspectors Pardeep Manda, Sat Pal & Partap Singh along with police raided in a planned and surprise move raided M/s Nuclear Hospitality , popularly known as “PARA” who is running a discotheque situated Centra Mall, phase 1, Indl Area, Chandigarh. He was found blatantly flouting many rules and regulations of Excise & VAT. It was running the liquor bar beyond 1.a.m which is not permissible as Excise Rules. Liquor being consumed there was not against valid pass & permit issued by Excise Department, also not issuing proper sale invoices and not filing VAT returns regularly.

Taking a serious view these serious offences, bar has been sealed on instruction of the higher officers and the operations of the discotheque have been stopped till further orders. In another raid on Miami Club in sector 9, it was found running bar without a liquor license. This club has also been sealed following the orders of the competent To break the nexus of any illegal supply of liquor in the city, a bottling plant M/s Ideal Distillers Pvt Ltd situated in phase 1, Industrial Area has also been surprised inspected. As a result many anomalies have been found. A show cause notice has been issued. The plant faces serious consequences in view of these anomalies.

A day before yesterday also, a  retail sale vend in transport area in sector 26  being run by Mr. Narinder Chaddha was sealed when found selling liquor at very cheap rates and in bulk which constituted a serious offense under the Excise Act. Other vends are also being regularly checked and will not be spared if found violating liquor related rules and regulations. M/s Park Plaza is also facing a serious action as it was also found flouting rules when checked day before yesterday.

Sh. Kashish Mittal, I.A.S, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chandigarh has confirmed the facts about these raids and said that the department is very serious to eradicate  illegal activities indulged by any licensee/vendor or boot-legers in existence in liquor trade and also to curb evasion in value added tax. No leniency shall be shown to the offenders.  These raids would also help in protecting the Excise and tax Revenue.
